I'm thinking the expedite side of Landstar, if they would take it on. I know regular Landstar does. Other than them, someone whom I know would have a clue about how to find loads for it. I would run my own authority, but I'd at least give Landstar a shot first.

I have to agree with you about going to landstar first, then speak with other expedite companies. Then maybe contact 3pl companies. maybe ceva?
-
Ceva as a contact, yes. As a carrier? I don't know if they'd take a big D on.
-
I could darn sure make use of a lift gate. Good luck with the idea TNhawk I suppose you're right I'm the last person who ought to be pee'ing in your cheerios. And at least you have some semblance of an idea/experience of making a go at this. Landstar imo would be about the best place to give this a try.
-
LS would take it but you would have to work a little harder to get the work coming towards you. Maybe getting with a good large agent, thinking that one in Alabama would be a good start (got a lot of work out of them) but then again I may do this too.

I know the one you're talking about - same here.

I never made any contacts off the network worth squat anyways although I did make boatloads of money bidding some desperado loads from it. You don't make friends in that scenario lol. You get labeled a vulture. Landstar would probably be a better fit for you. I like for Bill to lease on good drivers and it sucks that we aren't into the expedite thing as big as we used to be but I'd hate to see you come here and get let down that it's not what you thought it was. They lease on tractors to pull 53' dry vans and sometimes with the right individual steps and/or flats. The smaller expediter sprinters and class b were all leased on at Panther a few months ago.. -
When I was expediting in the early 90's, I had driven cargo vans, straights, and semis. When driving semis, many times the trailer was less than half full. Many times only afew pallets.
It was during this time I thought of using a pup, but no one would ever consider it. I too would get into a super D in a minute if the opportunities were there. Just have to keep calling companies with the idea.
