"I can't believe you like money too. We should hang out." ... (... but I digress.)

You've been given good advice and guidance based on the info you've provided. What you may want to do now is sit down and determine what service you want to provide. Better yet: knock on doors and ask what services companies in your area need, and how much they are willing to pay someone without experience for providing it. Then assess your current inventory and liquidity to determine what you can currently use to meet their needs, and what you need to purchase. Revenue minus cost equals profit. Performing those three assessments will answer everything you asked in the original post.

If you're near the Bakken, you really should get your Hazmat endorsement to broaden your marketability.

What type of insurance do I need to pull a big trailer? Is it something special or can I call my insurance company I have my pick up insured under? Where do you get cargo insur? What other coverage do I need?

You can just stop right there. I tell everyone like yourself thinking about doing this to check on insurance and I usually never hear from them again. Forgot about EVERYTHING else. Call about insurance. Chances are you won't be able to get any or they will want $10,000 up front paid in full.

So how can people do this. There's lots of new people and they have to start somewhere. If your hot shot driving you didn't just magically get insurance.

Just make the call instead of 100 people going back and forth. Insurance stops pretty much 99% of the people dead in their tracks. Either because you have no experience or they want the whole premium up front. You need liability which you may get but it's the $100,000 cargo that will stop you most likely

The company I was looking into actually covered the cargo insurance.

First year out my premium was almost 8500. That was with a clean driving record and paid in full discounts.
