Fl is a pain in the rear. Had an issue with Florida once in a hotshot. Eastbound Pensacola scale with a 40 foot gooseneck, pulled on the scale and he come out with the tape measure, he said with my setup I was over-length. He told me I needed a permit, no overhang front or rear, just plain hotshot not even heavy. Long story short after ordering a permit and being the proud receiver of a $1000.00 citation I was able to leave. In florida I was able to contest the citation without success, but I tried, you might have the same option, but might not do you any good.
How much did they screw you for? -
1175 everything, i called his boss and he explained the whys and howcomes to me in great detail, once i stepped over the 26k limit i was considerd a straight truck at 10k limits and fla legaly has the right to do such, not all states do this im told but fl does and will, now these folks in that scalehouse was very nice people jokeing around and cutting up with big smiles but id smile too if i could earn that kinda money fast and easy, only give me 20 days to pay as a thank you too.

You got off easy. My company has several blanket permits for OS/OW (I run a semi- I have one for 6axle=122k, one for 7axle [drop axle on tractor] =140k, and one for 8 axle [with stinger on trlr] =160k). I just wrote a post about my trip out to Pensacola yesterday in the Heavy Haul forum; long story short, my 160k permit expired 2 weeks ago, and the lady that does our permitting in house didn't realize it, and I got popped with a 152k load. My load is still sitting at the wb mm 155 scale until I can get a single trip permit faxed to me tomorrow morning. I was allowed to leave with my $3500 ticket (since my permit was void, they dropped me back to 80k) and a "Have a nice day!".....Grrr.....
mnmover Thanks this. -
dang, i hate that for you mud, some of these tickets kills the whole load profit, in my case anyway.

Thanks. Luckily for me I'm a company driver, so other than CSA points, I got off easy (as well as me at least sharing fault with our permit lady- it's her job to have them ordered ahead of time, but I also should have checked, so.....). However, boss isn't too happy. luckily we haul our own equip., so we shouldn't take too bad of a hit all things considered. We are doing a land clearing/chipping job on a military base, so the taxpayers are paying us pretty well, or so I'm told.....LOL
Sorry to hear about your deal though. That totally sucks man.... -

thats what the guy at the scale told me too, but he did say they go against the co, and im the co.
stammingerr Thanks this. -
If its only an overweight ticket then there wont be any csa points against you or your company.

You should have hired one of those truck driver attorneys. I've heard these fines get reduced to like $39.95. I've only heard stories about this, no first hand experience. Maybe a truck stop lunch counter story.
