Anywhere I can lease one? I have been turned down due to just starting & they want 2yrs on present job. I just got into the hot shot business & got a 2015 f350 dually. The company I'm leased onto now are charging me 20% & 150 a week for ther trailer. So I need a trailer so I can go solo

I could see 20% (although that seems extremely high) OR $150/week for trailer rental....but both? You're looking at $600+/month JUST for the weekly fee, and assuming a $10,000/month gross, that could be an additional $2000 on the percentage. I think I'd be telling them to pound sand and taking my truck elsewhere.

Exactly!! That's why I'm tring to go solo. I just started in October in these business. I got my MC & D.O.T number. But need that trailer for insurance to have my MC to go active so I can't get my own loads.

Who did you finance your truck with? Most of the trailer manufactures use Shefield ( I think that is the name ) it is less expense to purchase than lease. When I first started hot shot I was leased to someone and leased a trailer ( was told I could write everything off I could but it took to long and cost more in the long run) the second one I bought in July this year, zero interest if I pay off in 15 months I owe $1100. I had good credit when I got both of them. I suggest get a trailer and stay leased while you learn the business, unless you have some direct freight lined up. Most of the hot shot companies that take on o/o charge 20% if they have their own freight or have brokers they have steady relationship with can eliminate a lot of trial and error ( looking on load board taking loads to dead area ) if they exclusively look for loads off load board, start looking elsewhere ( of course they probably won't tell you if they do). Hope this helps. Mike

I have good credit also, buying that 2015 put me over extended says Sheffield. Rock solid told me I needed 2 yr on my current job. 20% ain't bad if the work is coming in. But getting 20% plus the 150 & 250 for insurance a week is HIGH as hell, especially if you have a slow week. I have serveral things lined up no trailer. I have there trailer & they MC on the side of my truck so I want to do things the right way. You are right I need to learn the business & that's what I have been doing

Yes you are right about that! I had been doing this for awhile when I got my second trailer. I already owned my truck in 2008. Maybe try to focus on not having slow week by staying out of slow areas. Do you stay close or get far out?

They use loading boads which I can do & they find me anything with my weight class, my Dispatcher sucks. Sometime he think I will take anything because I'm new. He gets me a load & waits to look for one coming out. I have leaned to turn right around & come home empty.
