Cost to run hotshot truck

    Was wondering what the cost is to run a hotshot truck? I want legit people answering this that follow the rules of it. Not an outlaw in it waiting to get busted.

    Insurance about $6500 year, fuel last year average $4 gal. (Mpg x miles run) maintenance cost vary on age of truck, cost of your truck, seen people getting cost of 60cpm to 85cpm (I have never broke it down to a per mile bases I think 85cpm is a little high however I don't have truck payment ) I also run very light loads. There is tax advantage running hot shot not beneficial starting out but in the long run. I have been doing this since 2008, I don't understand how you can do this and be under the table, as far as getting loads to scale house for any length of time. Hot shot gets inspected often at scale. Hope this helps.

    I am not sure how to work the pm part of this forum. So will address some of your questions here. You have to form a company (LLC, S-Corp. ect) maybe $300, you will get a EIN number, that allows you to conduct business. Insurance can be purchased with a downpayment of about $1200, then a payment every month, BOC Agents, ( it maybe BOCC) I don't recall $75, UCR fees, tags, IFTA, (although I run under 26,000lbs not required with my setup, do a google search on hot shot you will find a forum that all they talk about is hot shot the guy that runs it has a step by step guide how to get started $50) I do get loads off the load boards, usually when I am out and trying to get back. Most of my loads are from brokers that I build relationship with. Those are the best paying loads. When I started out I paid a guy who looked on the load boards who would keep me loaded, that was a key for me as i had time to learn. You need either chunk of change or good credit as some brokers take 30 or more days to pay, another alternative is to factor ( company that buys your receivables for a percentage) a lot of brokers have Quick Pay for a percentage. I do not factor my invoices but have when I started out. There is also better time of year to start out, winter is a slower time, when construction starts back up more things to be carried. Read the different threads on this site, a lot of the responses here pertain to hot shot as well as a O/O of a big truck, the Broker section gives a lot of insight, as well as the Flatbed area. I have a couple of questions what part of country are you located? What type of truck do you plan to run? Have you lived in your area for a long time? These are important as you determine what you are going to haul.

    I live in muhlenberg county ky. A little county in western ky. We have a lot of saw mills fabrication shops mainly do to the coal mines scrap yards and a tire recycling place that cut tires up to use on playgrounds. Truck of choice is a ford powerstroke or dodge cummins and I've lived here going on 4 years.

    Fabrication shops is good place to look for work ( where ever you look somebody is carring their stuff now) you got to be better ( not just beat their price, you are trying to make profit, anyone can carry something for less) any industry that makes something, or needs something. It is hard to start out with new truck, but you need reliability. This is not easy thing to do, you need to research. A lot of people lose their butt. Not trying to be negative just shooting straight. Do you something about trucking?

    If you tag for 26,000 but you gcvwr is over that do you have to get a class A license?
