First let me say that reading thru you guys forum posts have been very helpful. I am trying to get started in this so please forgive me if I ask what may be deemed as "stupid" questions. I have alot of experience driving one ton trucks with up to 40 foot trailers as well as driving fire trucks. But I have never dealt with the commercial side of it.

A question about the weighted tags:

I am planning on using my F350 and a 24 foot Cargo Hauler, a 40 foor horse trailer and a 28 foor flatbed right now (I will be running smaller loads for now). My truck has just been for personal use so I just have regualr tags on it. If I am running commercially, at that point I will need weight specific tags, correct? Also, when I renew my personal tags later this month, do I need to tell the tag office anything about using my truck for commercial use?

Need to post what state. Regs could be different for each state for tags.

BAMA here, if you dont want the headachs of aportioned, ifta, keeping up with all the stuff, tax issues you can get a x2 in bama, its good for 26000 combined lbs, meaning your truck trailer and payload stays below 26k, if your trailers are heavy then you might not have enough left for any real payload. I have a single rear drive,a 34ft flat and can load up to 13000lbs to be at my 26k limit, it does limit you believe me,some loads very tempting and trailer can carry it just fine but a x2 tag limits you to be legal and every scale WILL ck that magic number very close, If your starting out it might be good till your ready for more.

Wedge 542: I will still have to do the commercial ins, right? That quote almost stopped my heart!

On a side note: did you work in the oilfield before you started hauling? Spouse worked with a Wedge in the oilfield, haven't seen in many years, always spoke well of him.
