Do you guys have flat rates that are local? I was thinking under a 100 mile radius for 350.

Yes I do that all the time. Call them my bread and butter, while I wait for the meat and potato's load.

Here's some things to consider when you quote local work.

Most Brokers, and Shippers are going to say 2 hrs free on each end for loading and unloading. Doing OTR work thats acceptable but not for doing local work. Personally, I don't give anyone more than 30 minutes to load or unload before I start charging them standby time when I'm doing local work.

Now lets say the load picks up 100 miles from your home terminal and then it's another 200 miles from the receiver back to your home terminal. Depending on traffic you could be looking at 5/6 hours of driving without a load on the trailer. Is that being considered when you came up with this rate of $350.00 for local loads going 100 miles?

Another thing that can hurt you quick is what time of day a local load picks up. For instance if the shipper doesn't want to load you until afternoon will there be enough time to deliver it the same day? Would $350.00 be far on a load that took two days? I hardly think so.

Great point & yes that 350 will include getting caught in traffic. Most of the place I have been to they are located in the Suburb & no traffic. But if I have to go threw the city I will be fine. When I make runs @ home it's priceless. No hotel,no eatin out & I know the area with out GPS.
