Didn't know that the DOT inspection included things like emissions equipment, I don't see that on my form here.

40k, never been overweight, probably could get away with 35k.

Make sure you have your GVW numbered on the truck. Seems that helps some.coderedenterprises and LGarrison Thank this. -
Im gonna try that truckon. I get a lot of registration requests at the scales.
-
With the stop at the scales for the last few weeks they have check the axle weights on my truck when I last ran in Utah the scale guy came out to look at my dash cam ( thinking it was a radar detector) I asked him why he was checking my weight with such a small trailer. He stated that some hauler are loading to heavy on the rear axles. With axle rates of 5500 lb front and 9350 lb rear I will never be over on the axles even with the heavy 5th wheels. -

So would I. but none was issued to me cause I was legal -
Well… it was bound to happen.
From a Horizon Transport company wide email.
An industry contact reported that two drivers with another
transport company were put out of service by the DOT, both were fined,
and their company fined $20,000. It was because they had removed the
emissions control systems from the trucks. The process is called "EGR
Delete," and it is illegal for commercial trucks. The rule is found in the Clean Air Act of 1970 and its several amend-
ments. Changing the emission control systems is referred to as
"tampering."
You can look it up under Sections 203 for a description and 205 for
penalties. Suffice it to say, if caught, the driver could be fined up
to $2500 and his company $25,000. In any event, we are committed not only to following the
law but ensuring our contractors do as well - protecting us all.
I wanted you to know in case you might be tempted to tamper with your
truck's emission systems. Furthermore, we cannot keep a truck in the
fleet that has been illegally tampered with.
So, please be careful to obey the laws, all of them, not just some! -
I talk with a member of Horizon Transport staff on the phone, he stated that he had not received any emails nor heard of this before I called him. He stated to me that you should black out your email address and post
a copy of this for all to see. I think it's BS!truckon Thanks this. -
Interesting, not really concerned about it because I plan on leaving my factory installed emissions alone. It would be cool to see the ticket, or at least the email on this. In the past, Texas has rolled mirrors under our Owner Operator trucks and even opened their hoods looking at emissions parts.None of them got a ticket, all parts were intact. Back when i was still running semi's the scales on the 91 freeway here in California checked out one of our trucks. They plugged in to the computer, put a sniffer in the stack, and performed a snap idle test checking to see how much black smoke was produced. Again the truck had all factory components and passed their test. Not sure what would've happened if something had been deleted, or tampered with?
I do think the days are coming where they start looking at this stuff regularly. Especially here in California where I'm based. I recently received a letter from a company called WinterPark Engineering out of Metamora, MI. In short it says they'd like to plug in to my new truck and collect data for CARB. They're saying they'll give me a $20.00 gas card, and two free movie tickets if I let them. LOL Come on, how about at least a free oil change.
An attached letter from Fiat Chrysler says,
Dear Fiat Chrysler Customer,
Recently introduced emission legislation requires automotive manufacturers to collect and report On-Board Diagnostic data to the California Air Resource Board (ARB). To fulfill these requirements, FCA US LLC is required to collect data from a representative in-use sample of it's 2015 model year vehicles certified for sale in the State of California within 12 months of when the vehicles were first introduced into commerce. The data collected is only related to on-Board diagnostics, specifically In-Use Monitoring Performance Ratios. These diagnostic data information help to verify that the vehicles emissions systems monitoring is functioning as often as required by the ARB regulation.
Then it gives a website link for further info, ,and goes on to say thanks if I'm allowing the collection
WinterPark Engineering doesn't say I have to let them look at it, just asks if I will. Fiat Chrysler is stating that they are required by law to collect it so I'm assuming they'll do it without asking next time the truck is at the dealer?
