Excuse me and this post if you found it redundant. I simply would like to know if there is some type of checklist to successfully complete any and all steps in an order regarding hauling 3 cars with a T&T (truck and trailer) under 26,000 gvwr. What posts I've read on this were posted almost a couple years ago. I am beyond frustrated with the state of Tennessee and the DOT and trying to get an MC Number .No one can simply tell me what to do first.
What I do have is a business name ready for LLC.
I have a T&T lined up.
Ins waiting once I get the DOT/MC numbers.
An appointment to get a medical card.
Leads on cars to haul.
I Just want to work! Im simply exhausted and bewildered on how bad the state of TN is at knowing their job. I've spent money on stuff I didn't need and would appreciate anyone's previous experience on getting this over with so I can get on the road.

someone will correct me if i am wrong but i believe grater than 10k gcvwr used in commerce is required to have dot and mc numbers 26k is the threshold for requiring a cdl

sorry if i miss understood
when you apply for your numbers they issue you numbers but they are not active yet. you have to give your non active numbers to your insurance so they can send the proper fourms to show you have insurance before your numbers go active -
Thank you EZ, I'm just getting the run around. Go do this first then come back, I get there and they said I have to that first? The tail wagging the dog kind of thing. The State of Tennessee just sucks that's all. What do you mean DOT drug&alcohol policy? I thought that was to be assumed? So I need to add a simple D&A policy for myself?

Yes, you'll need to be signed up with a drug consortium, and tested before you can ever turn a wheel. You also have to wait for the results of the tests to come in before driving. It's a pretty simple process. If you fail to sign up, or wait for the results before driving the fines can be very high. The fine starts at $10,000.00 for failure to comply.
You said TN, you do realize you get your MC and USDOT permits/numbers from the FMCSA, Right? You apply for them online, your MC will cost you $300.00, and the USDOT number will be free while applying. Once you've applied thats when you'll want your Commercial Truck insurance company to electronically send them your insurance info. Getting your MC/USDOT to go active usually take 2 to 4 weeks.
Being in compliance is very important, you really need your office set up first because as soon as your numbers go active they'll be calling to schedule a New Entrant Audit. They'll be looking over your files, and likely inspecting your equipment. -
I would also really get professional advice on the LLC thing, it may be worth not doing because there is no liability protections with one.

The 10,000 # trailer deal comes into play when the combination exceeds 26,000.
Theres a few states that still require a cdl if pulling a trailer over 10k, but you need to be licensed in that state for it to apply to you.
