    straight truck leased to Landstar

    I am looking for anyone who has a straight truck leased to Landstar. We talked to a Landstar recruiter at the Mid-America Truck Show today and were told they had straight truck freight. I would like to hear from a driver that is leased on with a straight truck.

    Landstar doesn't have many trucks in its expedite division , Landstar Express America . Safersys only shows them having 339 power units . They're doing better than other expediters right now . Maybe you can catch one of their O/O's here , but they're a pretty quiet bunch .

    Thanks for the response. We own one 24 ft. straight truck and 2 tractor trailers. The straight truck world is very slow and this Landstar recruiter told us they had freight. I would really like to have some kind of idea how the freight is.

    The loads are good . They get a lot of government work . I heard from a reliable source Landstar expedite went union but can't find a verifying link .

    I have a friend that drives a super b unit with them and they are not union. but they are as slow as everyone else

    Landstar expediter

    We are not union and there has been no talk I have heard even discussing it. We are as slow in freight as everybody else out here. Government freight isn't what it used to be, pay is down to same as general freight and there's often NO fsc. I checked today and there are 82 teams in service and 156 solos in service. There may be other drivers at home or on vacation not counted here. These numbers are down a lot from years before. Turnover in our whole fleet is up, I think we are having more churning of drivers: old ones quitting, new ones coming on, then quitting later. Recruiters? They were all let go last year. Who represented Landstar?

    My coment on the union came from this post on another forum March 3 . The member hasn't posted since .
    Leam drivers have elected to be unionized effective April 01, 2009. Many of us have elected to take the month of March off while details of our contract are finalized. Will post details when available
    Early April Fool's joke maybe ?

    landstar is all O/os so think about that one, how can O/o's unionize they are independant contractors.

    Landstar expediter

    I would make a correction on one previous comment. Landstar is mostly O/O's but not 100%. There are folks who own several trucks making a small fleet with hired drivers running them as if they were owner. Split is usually 60 % / 40% with the larger share going to the one buying fuel. It is certainly a joke that owner operators would go union. What seems to make a difference in about staying alive right now is how much debt you are paying on outside of the truck. Big house payment, car payment or two, or other large monthly bills will ruin the expediter owner, because there just is not the cash flow that there was before the depression. I still want to know who the "recruiter" was, because as said earlier, they were all fired last year.

    I dont know if they were recruiters or "employees" of Landstar, but I talked to them also at Mid-America and got a O/O application and looked at their live loadboards. Interesting way of doing business, but I would like to work for a BCO for a while before I jumped in.
