Can anybody give me any advice on how to go about getting in with a fleet owner? I have my CDL permit and have been trying to find a trainer/training company to take me on for my Class A, but being a female seems to be quite a detriment.
I have seriously been thinking of getting my Class B and get in to the expedited, but it seems the ones I've looked at all require teams.
Also, can anybody give me hints about how to get my Class B without access to a truck for testing?
Any help is appreciated. Be safe out there.

I was under the impression that u guys and girl owned the trucks. Is it better to buy ur own truck or drive 4 someone

I was under the impression that u guys and girls were o\o. I was thinking about going this way. But would only do it if I could own the truck. Do u make better money if its ur truck?

Yendor, you obviously work hard...what kind of $ can a driver earn if he/she runs hard and stays out say four weeks at a time? Also, does Express-1 hire out of Florida, do u know? Thinking of giving up the big rig for a shot at this. I too love to run hard, but finding the freight these days is always the challenge, right? Thanks...

I recommend driving for a fleet owner first to learn the business, and to see what it is like to live and work on the road, especially if you have never done it before. Attend an Expeditor's Expo so you can talk to the pros before you buy. Then you will have a true understanding of what you are getting into!

what should one expect to make driving team for an expediter?
I got a call from a driver who is about to lose his co-driver and he is looking for a replacement.
He said his fleet owner pays the drivers 20% each of the load or 40% total.
Since the drivers are independent contractors, a larger portion will be lost to self employment taxes.
What say ye?
He said he averages $500-600 per week and that sounds pretty low to me especially if that is pre-tax. -
We too are a team here in Jax, FL and thinking about expediting...trying to decide whom to go with.
Have a call into FedEx C/C (left message waiting on call back) and have read some bad stuff about Panther on here so am not looking there. We are looking into T/T rather than straight truck but right now will consider anything. Do not know anything about Express 1...or the others for that matter.
The previous posters, have you talked to any of the companies..? Did you hire on..? Would like to hear how you are going..thanks and be safe. -
I am going to orientation with Willis Shaw in AR, leaving on Sunday. Can't wait.
If you weren't asking me...sorry for the info.
