I know of a guy that ran a Chevy 3500 Dualie hauling boats for an OTR company out of MO so I know the jobs are out there. That particular driver has since moved up to a Freightliner FLD single axle with a small sleeper.

Those jobs are few and far between like hauling those boats or new campers with duallies, Gotta wait till someone dies or retires it seems like.

Most hot shotters I see out there are owner operators. You just don't see too many companies hiring company drivers to haul their loads unless you live in some specific place like northern indiana where they build all those new travel trailers. Auto sales are in the toilet and the carriers that haul them are doing one or more of the following - cutting throats, running for nothing, or starving to death. Not to discourage you, just know what you're getting into.

Remember. If your GVW is> 26,001 lbs, you need a CDL A, regardless of if you drive a F350 or D3500 or above

Thanks for the replies.I do have some good news, the job I did apply for about 3 weeks seems to be coming through.I had just started to lose faith in the position when she leaves a voicemail saying "before we make a commitment I'd like you to take a day off next week to ride along with my driver to see if you really like the work we're doing".Now another question I have,I know standard pay for big rigs is anywhere between .26cpm - .30cpm.What would a hotshotter make in terms of mileage? she hasn't mentioned leasing so I'm assuming that I'll be a company.I don't want to assume that there would be that much of a difference.

If you're looking for any car sales jobs you should check out Autonations jobs website and look for one near you. They have a wide array of positions open anywhere from lube tech to accounting to mechanic. It's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a job.
