The new motors are where you will be having issues. Most of the haulers have went the expense of removing most of the emissions in order to get a reliable motor.

Most of the companies prefer 1 ton duallies anymore. Some will let you come on, but they are few and far between with the single wheel 3/4 tons.

here is a post on a website i found http://www.shipalmostanything.com/details.cfm?ID=107573 not sure if im allowed to post links on here though. here is another cut and paste from the ad. guy says he has 250+ to transport. could be a real money maker for the right person.......

The trailers are going from Selma, AL to Chattanooga, TN. You do have to have an MC# or be leased to someone who does. You do not have to file an IFTA report. A CDL is highly recommended. You may want to check with your state licensing agency to see if it is neccesary. We have a company that you can lease to here in Batesville, AR. The only drawback is you would have to bring each truck here to Batesville to do that. The rate to the truck on these shipments is $276.00 if you have your own authority. Let me know if you are interested. We have several hundred of these to move over the next 12-14 months. They are 32' bumper pull trailers. I can get you more specifics if you are interested

If these are ex fema trailers and have been lived in, I would not touch them with my truck.

I pulled a bunch of them from Louisiana to Hope AR. Alot of them barely made the word road worthy. With the way DOT is now, I would pass.

Began pulling the TT's in 5/2010 and logged (half of these are dead head/unpaid) 16,000 miles in May. Another 15,000 in June but July the bottom has dropped out with factories shutting down for whatever reason. The money can be great, however don't forget that taxes are not taken out of your settlements, so you'll be responsible for them come uncle sam day. Driver reward cards are somewhat helpful and you'll learn what parts of the country that you want to purchase fuel in. Canada runs are full of other rules/regs and I haven't taken that route yet since I don't have an aux fuel tank yet and REALLY don't want to fill up 'up dere'... I went out and bought a 2004 F250 SD with the 6.0 and have some time learning how to drive 'bookworthy' and have only been redlighted once at the scales (needed trip permit through ID anyhow, simple scan of the log book and BOL and I was out the door) Learning curve also when it comes to driving (NO Cruise control, yes I'm an idiot and tried this going into Denver, engine told me I was a fool), also maintenance expenses are reasonable as long as you know how to do an oil change yourself. Other hard learned experiences include smoking my coolant (mid afternoon pulls and later observed cooling fan not plugged in) twice pulling up the mountain into Butte MT and following GPS into a NO OUTLET (sign wasn't until the cul-de-sac) in St Louis 2 lane with cars parked on the sides and 2 miles of backing a 28' tt down a residential. Never before had driving through a back yard looked more appealing. Just expect that as long as you're willing to run the runs the money is to be made. Currently it's about 1.15 per loaded mile with not many pullbacks. Tolls (loaded) and $25-40 per delivery wash fee's are reimbursed. My company has a 50% pre trip on the Scam-Data with the remaining upon returning original paperwork. They also require $1,000 bond which they take at 10% from your settlement of each trip until paid off. Other companies have different pay methods and scales as well as truck requirements. Some of the locals I've seen are Horizon transport, Indiana Transport, Hoosier Transport, Bennet LLC, and Star Fleet. These are only the ones I see a lot on the road and in the rest areas.

Factories typically shut down for the 4th of July. Some for a week others for 2 weeks. It is also when they make the model year change over. Happens every year.

Having a 6.0 Ford, your expenses will be more than if you had bought an older Ford or Dodge with a 5.9.

Been doing this since October 2003.

Many shut down, but a few stayed open. I know some Keystone plants kept running, and I took a 'hot' load of parts to Fleetwood in Decatur IN that week.

Thanks for the update on the closings.. I have since been told about a week to two near the 4th of july, and again near Christmas. I just obtained my enhanced license and now have the ability to go to Canada, although I'm a tad apprehensive as I've never pulled commercially there. Private, in and out a few times. What do I have to look forward to? Fuel costs I'm being told are higher in Canada, but when I look at the websites they are showing comparable to US prices (3.09 vs local at 2.99 at this time for Gallon of Diesel) is there something else I'm not considering?

The engine has been a problem of overheating since day one going up high grades, red pegging near butte montana and donners pass (mid day climbs after running hundreds of miles aready for the day). I have upgraded the air intake, and flush/filled the radiator, new thermostat and all that. There may have been a fan unplugged again causing an issue. Are there two fans on these or work differently? I'm new to diesel as I'm sure you can tell.

I plan on getting a programmer (Bully Dog is what I've been told to get) so I can fix my fuel economy (11.2 loaded and 16 empty currently) to put some more change back in my pocket. I'm looking for any and all advice that I can get.. Thanks for the help to all who can..

    Thanks!
