I only lost one load in three years with a 96" wide trailer (initially). It was a Skytrac for the US Army. JLG refused to load me. I picked up a manlift instead and the broker sent over one of their trucks to pick the Skytrac. We did the swap, with about 2" of tire overhang on each side, no biggie. A coop in WA state (near where I was delivering) stopped me on the scale and a DOT officer came out with a tape measure! Guess they couldn't eyeball it, and were trying to make sure I wasn't running illegal oversize....

All i've ever had were 96 wide trailers and the only loads i've lost are rolled roofing loads out of NH and some fence loads out of PA that don't pay nothing anyway and thats in 16 years plus the 96s are not restricted like the 102s are and theres alot of routs that still restrict 102s

Any state highway in Cali is legal # 102". I'm sure because I run about every podunk 2 lane in the state & never have an issue.

You will get in trouble for being over 65', which is why a 45' is better than a 48' in a lot of applications. I think the weight diff between 96" & 102" is pretty minimal. 45' to 48' is more pronounced.

I said county roads, not state highways. Sometimes the last few miles are on gravel roads, sometimes there really isn't room for vehicles to pass, one pulls to the side. Are your state highways like that?

You know me...I haul 11'-12' wide loads on my 102"....if the money right....

I have lost one load because of my trailer for not having an all wood deck...

102's are a problem when you go to mining operations....their docks are set up for 96's....nothing like backing in and having 1" on either side to work with.....:biggrin_25524:

Ever drive on CO 14 out of Ft. Collins?
    Real fun for a 48" 102"......

Carbon Cyn Hwy 142 IIRC, that runs from Brea to Chino Hills is fun....There's two curves there that if you have a 48' you can almost jackknife......:biggrin_2555:

Ran 14 out of Ft. Collins with a 96" back before 102" were legal. When I was leased to Getter we ran all those backroads of CO, WY, and UT. We had a fairly big yard in Denver. There used to be decent freight out of Denver.

I've never been on that 142 from Brea-Chino Hills. One little gem I was on I got off I-10 east of Banning and went south . I went up,up, up, through switchback city and hairpin county until I was at the top where I could see for hundreds of miles. Nice little laid back town up there. I had an OD backhoe on that was going to be used on construction of a treatment plant. I headed west out of there and ended up south of Riverside.

Name me some gravel county roads in CA that you run on. How many trucks do you think use these besides yourself?
