I'm starting a brokerage. :)

I wanted to a while back when i needed a job. But i couldnt even come close to paying for an authority...

But now i have money. I'll have to save some up, but I think i can do it and make it work out. I'm actually going to attempt this.

I figured it cant really hurt. I'm going to start out part time from in my truck until i have a couple of customers on both sides and see its actually going to *work*. I figured at the worst it'll be several thousand dollars wasted. Money can be replaced..


I'll post my progress here. I just started looking for quotes on the 10,000 surety bond. I know thats going to be the biggest problem.

 

Yes, but I don't think you understand what the bond is for. You're thinking about insurance, and thats for the carrier to supply, not the broker. It's just a surety bond to ensure that the broker actually pays the carrier. Even then, it's totally worthless. If I was starting a scam operation, that'd cover two loads! (coast to coast expediting at 2500 miles per load $2 per mile...)

I also know of an owner operator that hauls gasoline. Delivers to 5 or 6 BP stations in the town i live in. Only o/o gas hauler i've ever ever seen.

But i dont think brokers have anything to do with gas hauling anyway.
