Many of us old schoolers have had to ammend our behavior in the last few years due to the ever increasing litigious nature of our society.
Self preservation through adaptation...slow.rider, Schmidtrock, groundpounder and 2 others Thank this. -

No way in hell am I about to waste 11 hour's to drive 30 miles. I would make that disapear in a heart beat and make it legal. Be there within lies the problem. We get paid by the mile. No hour's = no mile's = no money. All of us company driver's need to step up to the plate about the pay rate. If all driver's in one company got fired for standing up for something, that company would fold up because of the operating cost's it would take to run the place until another oreintation class could be filled and completed to fill those trucks. Now, think of that with all companies. That's as basic as it get's.

Its also possible to drive 14 hours legally in a 24 hour log period. If you are running after midnight, shut down for 10 hours and then run until midnight the next night. At 60 mph average you could log 840 miles. At 65 average that would be 910.
The most I have logged is around 650 miles in an 11 hour driving day. My company flags any average over 62 MPH. Before my truck was cut back to 65 for Canada I used to always average up on the drive line when running out west or stay on line 3 for P breaks and flag a tire check to line 4 just to stay below a 62 average.Skunk_Truck_2590 Thanks this. -
I'll admit sometimes I run a few hours over on HOS. BUT, I won't get greedy with it. The accident I had back in '01 comes very close to what blackw900 is talking about. Rolling through Arlington, Tx, semi passed me on the left 4-wheeler passed me on the right. Both tried to occupy the same space ahead of me. THe semi sped off, the 4-wheeler bounced off his truck and trailer, I buried the brake pedal and was still doing 15 mph when I hit her. Thank god no one ever check my logs, not Arlington PD (THP never responded to the accident), not the insurance for either her or me. My company knew, but it was kept tight. The only reason it didn't bite all of us in the ### was becuase the ticket I got was dismissed and the insurance was able to settle with the woman for $5,000 (on a multi-million dollar lawsuit) and help her go after the other trucking company. I know #### well that if we had gone to court, they would have been all over my logs, fuel receipts, etc., etc., etc.slow.rider and JustSonny Thank this. -
All the above said, the most I've ever legally run in one day is 860, back when my truck would do 80 mph. The most I've ever run, well, I'm not saying.
