Maverick uses friction mats on coils. Not on pickled coils tho. On coils they use friction mats, beveled boards, coil racks, coil pads, chains, trip chains, and if shotgun straps.

Glad you had luck with them. However Yugo didn't get a bad reputation because of a few bad cars, and neither has Trashcan (woops I mean Transcraft)

Coils are the exception to the "divisible load" rule in Ohio. Steel companies padded the right pockets.

    Any chance I get!:biggrin_25522:

I have never had any problems hauling coils or bar stock steel. But i'm always looking to learn how to do things better/safer.

He is the story that go's with the photo of the truck with the coil in the back of the cab.
Thought you may want to read it.

LINCOLN PARK: 10,000-pound coil crashes through cab of semi-truck

LINCOLN PARK ' An Ohio man is lucky to be alive after a 10,000-pound coil of steel came barreling through the cab of the flatbed semi-truck he was driving Monday morning.

Mark Swihart, 48, was hauling the steel for Midwest Freight Co. of Portage, Ind., when he had to slam on his brakes after another vehicle pulled in front of him near the Sears Shopping Center at Dix-Toledo and Southfield.

When he did, the coil broke loose, rolled forward and smashed through the trailer and cab.

Debris and engine fluid covered the ground, but there were no injuries. The truck and trailer were impounded because officers deemed them unfit to be on the road.

Officer Patrick Culter said he could easily see how a slight alteration could have turned the incident into a fatality.
"If he had been going faster, say 55 mph on the freeway rather than 45 mph on Dix, the coil would have had some serious movement to it," Culter said.

Swihart was ticketed for having an unsecured load, spilling his load and not having proof of insurance. He has to return to Lincoln Park for a hearing in 25th District Court on March 23.

Neither he nor his employer could be reached for comment.

Ok first off, that coil was bigger than 10,000lbs. Second, it says chief on the door.

Na, maybe the 10k was what he told the cop it weighed. That way it didn't look as bad when he saw the other "10k" coil on the rear.:biggrin_2559:

There's some things wrong with that report, imagine that. It didn't look to me like that coil went "through" the cab. 10k? I'm not even a steel hauler, but I can see that's wrong!
I know right where that happened. The people in that area are absolutely certifiable, not all, but seems most.:biggrin_25524: Crap, I try to avoid that area even in my 4wheeler, so it really doesn't surprise me he had to brake pretty hard. And that doesn't mean he wasn't paying attention.:biggrin_25513:
