    Newbies, do yourself a favor

    Look learn and listen while in school and with a trainer. While getting fuel the other night another driver asked me what I thought about his scale ticket. I looked and could see he had about 36580 or so on the tandems and had NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!!He knew he was over but didn't know which way to go or how far, while explaining the idea of weight transfer and marking the hole I thought would do it he got in and moved forward.
    The whole rig moved! I then explained you have to hold the trl brakes on. His response was "the lever's broken"( hand brake)ok set the trl brakes and release the tractor brakes, still the rig moved! I took a look under and the trl brakes were so far out of adjustment they just wouldn't lock up at all! I'm sure that all this was covered at one time or another in his "training"
    About that time he decided enough messing around and went down the road as is and I called his Co. and told safety about it. SEE SOONER OR LATER IT WILL CATCH UP TO YOU! He grossed aprox78k and no (or little)trl brakes. I didn't want to share the road with him.

    Must have been one of those drivers that opted to not go with a trainer!

    a few months ago i was packin my bags to go home for the weekend at my local flying j, before my ride came, a guy approached me and asked what i knew about scale tickets...i dont remember specifics, but this guy needed to slide his fifth wheel and was thinking backwards for some reason. He wanted to take weight off his steers and moved the fifth wheel forward and it wasnt right and was very confused. I told him, slide it back a couple holes! I finally told him, do it and if im wrong i'll pay your re-weigh! I dropped his landing gear for him and he slid his fifth wheel just like i said, and i went back to my truck.....I had my mom go aroudn to the scale before we left, and guy was nowhere to be found. Either i was right or he gave up and didnt want to take me up on my bet, LOL. I knew i was right...

    I posted in Doc's thread about sugar coating!

    That 80% of trucking is mechanical not driving!
    From PTI to other things!
    Schools do not have to teach about sliding anything except maybe how it works.
    The trainer while training that does NOT have you under a truck everyday for the PTI and pointing things out and explaining them are:
    #1 just in it for the money
    #2 lazy as craploa
    #3 have no clue about anything outside the cab either!
    #4 should be at Mickey D's and not in a truck trying to teach someone when they don't know it either! That company policy and how to do the paperwork is BS! But that's what they do before the important stuff! But that's company policy, important things as to which macro to hit on the QC and not how to fix the weights!

    What happened to the "old school" way of doing things?
    Oh I know! They have college kids in the office who learned everything in the world about trucking at Ivy Legue Hall!

    you know what i hate about pre-trips? Writing down the darn HM inspection dates on the trailer....that VIK crap...

    Wow, I'll straight up admit, since ive been driving tri-axles the past year, I cant remember squat about axle weighing a tractor trailer, but I can darn sure do a good pre-trip, and since I grease, adj. brakes, change tires, etc. I can do alot of my own small maintenance. I've got a good freind who drives OTR, went to trucking school with him and have known him all my life. He has the knowlege to check all of that, but is unwilling to touch anything, he just calls to his company, he claims you need an inspection lisc. to adj. brakes, I claim "whose going to catch me?".

    That's actually pretty scary right their...

    Perfect way to kill someone or himself and then the media is all over truckers and the heat turns up.
