| Re: Help me Shift We have a 6 speed 5 ton, a 10 speed tractor, and I drive a 5 speed car to work. By far the tractor is easiest. I just hate the 6 speed in the 5 ton. It seems to want the clutch more and the pattern just seems to tight on the high side for my liking. I can't count the times I downshift 5th to 2nd LOL. With the 10 speed, I'm amazed at how far I can let the clutch out with my foot on the brakes. I never have to worry when stopped on a grade. That thing is not rolling back or stalling unless my foot slips off the clutch. I usually double-clutch through the first few gears, but once into high range, I just shift smoothly without the clutch. I think I shift in the 1500rpm range, but I don't pay too much attention to the tach. I'm pretty sure it's not the progressive shifting our training department likes to see LOL. |

| Re: Help me Shift There is three styles to shifting everyone can drive automatic even if you shift those gears which you can then there is a manual car or truck where you push clutch once while shifting and then there is shifting a big truck which is completely different but its not |

| Re: Help me Shift Upshifting Most of your drivers "here" will tell you that they don't use the clutch except for starting and stopping (floating) which I will attempt to explain 1: start truck 2: release Parking brake and hold brake pedal 3: push clutch to floor to allow clutch brake to stop transmission and we'll say put it in Low or First gear 4: let clutch out slow till you feel it start to pull and then release brake you should be in motion 5: begin to accelarate, this is the "hard" part finding the shift point, you will reach a point where you can pull shifter in neutral and then immediatly push or pull into next gear and it should fall in gear Newer trucks are a pain and trucks that havn't been driven a lot because the transmission has not been broken in yet eventually you should be able to do this with the th jake brake on the entire time Did I forget anything drivers? |

Well, I paid a little attention to my rpms' today in city. I generally shift in the 1500-1600 range most of the time. I tried the first few at 1300 and it just seemed to lug to much for my liking. But I don't pay for the fuel either LOL. Downshifts were all in the 1000 range. Also, when I picked up the new truck a few weeks ago, I had the no-clutch shifting worked out by the second day. But I still use the clutch most of the time anyway. |

| Re: Help me Shift Yeah is seems like you are shifting too early. But I remember the trainer saying 13 shift 13 shift. I was thinking man I ain't even movin. He said you should be in the gear that makes the truck pick up speed with the lowest RPMs. |

| Re: Help me Shift Well, with an empty, I've pulled away in 6th, so that's definitely low rpm's, but not very good on the transmission either. |
