Driving for a company these days, with a governed truck. NO way to make time, but there was a time when I drove fast trucks, and it sure was sweet to slide into the left lane and ease on by.

In many ways, it's easier to be a trucker today, but it's sure not as fun!

    Easy is boring!~:biggrin_25518:

I highly doubt alot of people would still be trucking if they didn't get their 10 hour beauty rest break.

I'm not saying trucking was better back then, but the trucker themselves were better. Not like todays trucker.

Agree....I miss those triple digit trucks. It sure was fun to get a few fast trucks and stay in the hammer lane all night...

I used to run to Miami, then Brownsville Texas and back to Greensboro NC every week....was always getting it done in the left lane.

I got popped at about 4am one morning on I-10 in Louisiana,
The cop said he clocked me at 112 mph....and chased me about 3 miles to catch up...
I was just in "the zone".....lol!

I think it was a blast back then...hard work but could have fun moments...
I miss that old flat top freightshaker with the series 60 cranked wide open..

I am a currently a school bus driver. Toyed with going with Swift a couple of years back, but decided against it for the time being.

    Anyways . . .

I always find it hilarious when I am driving the kids to a game or field trip, and I pass obviously governed trucks in a school bus. Makes me giggle like a little girl. :biggrin_2559:

Our buses are governed at 80, for what its worth.

I only hope you know what you are doing, having kids on board and all. Along with 6 wheelers, I find that, on average, school bus drivers are some of the worst out there.

Not saying you are, just what I observe....

No worries. The fastest I go is 70. Been driving for 7 years. No tickets, no accidents.

I agree. A lot of horrid drivers drive school buses. But then you have to remember that the driver is trying to keep control of 70 kids while driving, so it is not always their fault that they drive horribly. It is more difficult and stressful than most people think.

Luckily, the kids behave with me, so I can concentrate on driving.

I don't know about school bus drivers, but church van drivers definitely are in the top three! Seems like every time I see a deadly crash on the news involving kids there was a church bus/van involved!

Our last job that my wife and I did was driving horses commercially. The trucks weren't governed and had a lot more power than the norm. Not only that but hauling horses didn't exactly top out our weight. Our boss expected us to hustle and said many times that's why he didn't want his trucks to be governed. Maybe I am getting older now but 80-85 in a semi seemed to really be pushing it! There were many times I caught myself just going a little too fast! Actually it was more frustrating not having a governor because you were constantly passing and always in the left lane cursing the guy in front of you. When we weren't in a hurry and backed it down it seemed to be a much more relaxing drive. I guess the grass is always greener!
