I need some advice. I have read a few threads that matched this subject but didn't quite answer the questions I have. I got my CDL A in Nov. of 06. I did the OTR training program with Werner and had to go local after completion. Cement Mixer, end dumps, and a little team OTR with a friend who is a O/O. All in all I got 1yr and had to take a maternity leave. My baby was born with asthma, eczema, and food allergies (eggs). I have been home with him for 2yrs. He is doing good and my husband (truck driver) is ready for a break. We have made the choice to switch places so that I don't lose my career. He will stay at home and I will go back to work. I have been told that I am not considered for employment without taking a refresher course. Insurance reasons. I don't have the money to take a refresher course. I could get local or OTR with it. Are there any "good" companies that will pay for refresher and use me for a training program ? I have a current medical card and I also have tanks, doubles, and hazmat that doesn't expire till 12/11. Any advice ?

Sorry to double post but I also wondered if a Team driver could be allowed to take me as a team driver so that I get recent experience and retrained without the fuss of a refresher course ? Or an owner operator could be allowed to do that ?

Maybe get the O/O you drove for to say you have taken some runs for him over the last year?....
I know it would be bending the truth but sometimes you have no choice.
I will probably get bashed for this.....Lil-beaver Thanks this. -
Could you make use of your O/O friend ??
EZ Money and Lil-beaver Thank this. -
Lil-beaver Thanks this.

as for companies paying for a refresher course, NO, they would want you to do the FULL course all over again, then they would want you to go to orientation, go with a trainer, etc, etc. otherwise they ain't about to pay for something with out "collateral"....Lil-beaver Thanks this. -
Agree with Rerun to some extent....
I did use an O/O for a reference and the company i was talking with said no problem. They were a smaller company though..350 some trucks..
They did call the O/O for a reference and sent him the prior employment paper. He filled it out and sent it back so all was good. -
My O/O friend could not afford to keep his truck and now works for Interstate. I wish that was an option. Any other ideas ? Can anyone tell me if there is an O/O who is willing to hire me for western region, or someone willing to run team and help me out or is this a hands tied question ?

Most companies require anywhere from six months up to three years of recent verifiable experience. Looks like an O/O is going to the the most likely route for you. You *may* find a company to do some kind of refresher but doubt it. Good luck.
