To be honest I would love to have a 13 speed double O.D. in my FLD112 S/A, why? Because the 9 speed has too big of a step between Direct (8th) and O.D. (9th). I live in a very hilly part of Ontario Canada and with steep grades (even though they are short) and 50 MPH speed limits the .86 ratio (13 low) with my 4:11 ratio and 22.5 tires would be perfect and I would still have the .73 (13 high) for any multi lane roads and higher crusing speeds.

Eaton makes a retrofit kit for their 9 speed to convert it to 13 speed but it appears to be designed for direct top gear RT 9 speeds, giving a .87 13 high gear.

Eaton used to make a TRIPLE O/D 13 speed transmission, the RTOO series that gave the following top ratios.

    12 low - 1.00
    12 high - .85
    13 low - .73
    13 high - .62

From what I hear, it had the reputation for being a bit noisy. It was phased out when Eaton brought out the .86/.73 "double O/D" transmissions we know today. Eaton referred to the RTOO transmissions as "double overdrive" despite the presence of a 3rd overdrive ratio, I guess since it wasn't possible to achieve all 3 O/D gears with the splitter alone.

I suppose it's entirely possible to build an RTOO transmission by attaching the 13 speed conversion kit to a 9 speed O/D.......

If you need info on shifting any trans and our having a hard time finding any info on eatons website, your not alone. The info is there though.Do this.Do a search for roadranger. When you get to their site,in the search box, type in "driver instruction".You will get multiple pages, but for the most part by page 3,you start seeing the trans that you wish to have info on.It includes instruction on shifting and shift diagrams among other things. They also have videos and I believe they are free for download or a small charge.I know printed articles and videos don't equal actually shifting a trans but it should help.It can't hurt.

If you need to find the transmission type it's stamped on the label on the side of the drivers door by the locking latch.

Yep, thats the way to do it. You will have no need for the splitter hauling insulation unless it is compressed batons even on the hills.

I never drove a 13 till I went to May trucking and they just told drivers not used to the 13 to drive it like a 9 till they got the hang of it
