Whiel just in general terms, I would never consider any lease, in this case it gets worse. There is no way that I would ever cocnsider signing anything where the company shorts me on paid miles, yet charges me for any excess of those same miles, charging 12 cpm for anything over 129k per 6 months. That's adding incredible insult to the injury of the lease deal.

Remember, If you lease a truck then they are 1. writing it off as a purchase by them 2. Writing off the lease 3. they control what ever they want including the fact that they can say your engine is worn out and charge you an OH and never do a thing except clean it up If you caat come up w/$20000.00 for a truck, dont buy one. Take it from an experienced OO.

Do yourself a favor,if you really are intent on buying your own truck,go to freightliner give them 1000.00,pay for a good warranty on the whole drive train if they don't have it on it already, before you do that, after you are sure you have credit to get that truck, get a trucking company with good rates that pays your base plate, ifta etc,get a signed contract from them and get your truck, work hard at it,take all your deductions, pay quarterly your taxes. you will be miles ahead of most leases I have seen and able to change companies if the work slows. good luck to all of you.let us know how you make out. We need the info for others, thks.

Its always better also to look at trucks on the bigroad leased to the carriers and talk to them 1st hand. THEY will tell you the Pro's and CONs about the company the are on with. And they probly will not lie to you! I myself see leasing to a company a good way to start with little overhead and COSTS to run as an O/O. #1, you get some discounts on a number of things (FUEL) and Rubber bing my number one picks!!!!!! All the best, My 2 Cents Matt |

We bought our 1st truck w/an $18000 down payment and still couldnt make a living with it so we bought a trailer for $32000 then bought headache rack, chains, binders, tarps, straps, rubber bungees, toolbox and a generator and a roll of California approved rope and a roll of bungee cord. We still didnt make money so we bought a farm and Ive heard you can go broke farming so Im buying a second farm and going broke twice as fast, Ill be twice as happy. I averaged 130,000 miles/yr.and got paid pretty well but should've put a team on it in the first place. Sold the truck and the IRS came and said you made $40,000 on the truck, we want $20,000, payoff on the trailer was $20000. It was profitable for Peterbuilt, the Govt, and Trailmobile. I had fun.

dang, there are some sneaky companies out there. i was really considering a leasing deal but not anymore. i will work my butt off for a few years and save up for a down payment before i buy a truck. thanks guys

I am convinced that there is not such thing as a good lease program. If you want to be an owner operator, save your money and buy a truck. The money you save (if you make a smart purchase) is pure profit over a lease purchase plan.
