Can anyone tell me how to get a HAZMAT endorsement in Texas? I've looked all over and it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Scroll down a few threads to the one titled "How to get your HAZMAT endorsement!"
There is quite a few good posts in there.
Here is one a snipped:

TX License Issuance Bureau CDL Section at (512) 424-2010. (Austin)
The lady that answered my questions was very nice and took the time to explain the process (a bit different for me, as I brought my X endorsement from another state.)
You can study the tests on line. They were close. The test was visual and touchscreen, but not too tough. My appointment for fingerprinting was made that day for the next day at a convenient location. About 30 days later, I got the letter and license in the mail. -
yeah its $78 for fingerprints and background check...and above posts are right, you take the written test first, once you pass, you go get fingerprints done and they submit those and they begin the background check...they will issue a paper lic. until your background check is complete, once thats done, they will send your "hard copy " with your HM endorsement on it.

Thanks you guys and gals I really appreciate it.
Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
Mine was different. They had me do the background- fingerprint first. Now I am going to take the hazmat

Interesting, My X is Tankers and Hazmat. Took Test first, cost for finger prints and back ground check is $98.25 in NC
The good part is if you have both Tankers and Hazmat, you get the X and only have to pay for one endorsement instead of 2. -
I am going through this right now. I took the test first and was given a FAST PASS for fingerprinting. The test was $11.00 and the fingerprinting was $78.20. I have had my cdl since 1994 but let the Hazmat endorsement lapse in 2000 due to not using it. That was my bad, now it is a PITA to get it back.
In Texas the steps are:
1) Take the hazmat test at your local office. ($11.00 for Hazmat only---I already had my tanker)
2) Pass the test and receive a "FAST PASS".
3) Set the appointment for the fingerprinting (online is faster) and pay $78.20 (check or money order only made payable to "L1 enrollment services")
4) Wait for new license with Hazmat endorsement (or "X" Tanker - Hazmat combination endorsement, as is my case) in the mail - 30 to 45 days
It is a PITA but I think it is good for the USA as a whole and a necessary evil in the times we live in.
