Well I'm working on getting out of the business. I did have fun driving the big truck but so much of the industry is ridiculous.

eLogs are freakin sweet. They stop companies from forcing you to run illegal. Sure it's more difficult to figure out how to cheat your logs, but give it time and a solution will be found. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone running illegal, backing up your logs, or just blatant falsification, I'm just saying that someone will figure out a way to cheat them. All technology has flaws, it's just a matter of time. But I still think eLogs are awesome.

Use a split sleeper berth to get around that...

Not doing that, and it doesn't matter now, anyway - but seriously - I'm not using split sleeper to drive all night after being up all day, simply because the company didn't know how to dispatch.

One thing I've discovered about e-logs they vary as much as the companies that use them. Have a friend who drives for a company, the e-log doesn't start until he reaches 65 mph, has a line 5 for washing the truck, stopping at wal-mart, etc.He is doing fine with it. All comes down to how much your company wants to impress the FMCSA and DOT. I gather those things can be set up to either keep you down or they can apply a little common sense to them and actually make them work for you! The FMCSA has some rather broad guidelines regarding e-logs and depending on how much your company wants to keep tabs on you they can be set up just about any way. That can and probably will change as they get more technical. One thing my friend does like about'em is there's no more "do the best you can or go ahead and run it". Brought that S### to a grinding halt.

I think the "start" for driving varies from company to company and what the insurance co. wants. When we expieramented with it, they had it set to record driving at 15 mph, as a result, I would regularly record 11.5 to 12 hrs of driving per day, and that was working a 14 hr day. Because of the railroads, depot's, etc., it was a pain.

I have had them since Aug 1 and LOVE them. No more doing recaps, counting miles, figuring out where you are exactly (rest areas, service plazas). No more 15 min for fuel (when you have to do it during the day) just log it as you do it, usually 5-6 min. No more "catching up logs" before crossing scales. The words "I'm on electronic logs" causes the DOT man to move on to the next question. No more missing logs, hit a button and off to the company they go.

Of course, those who want to run illegal wont like them. (they pretty much eliminates that). And people who cant trip plan wont like them either.

So, if you can trip plan, like running legal you wont have any problems with them. (in my opinion)

Yes there is a huge difference between E-Log and EOBR. Most companies are really using EOBR's. That's done through devices like the Qualcomm. E-LOGS and EOBR's have a totally different set of rules. With E-Logs (Done on a laptop or other portable device) you must have a printed out set of logs for the last 7 days and have the ability to print out the current day on demand. With EOBR's you don't need printed logs, but must have the ability to electronically transmit those logs by email or fax to law enforcement on demand.
