I'm sure this has been asked before,
Question about E-logs, how do they work say on your 34 hour restart, are you to sit in the truck stop or rest area for the full 34 hours ??
say you want to go to do your laundry, or do some shopping, are you suppose to call a cab for these things now ??
What if you are at home and you want to take the truck to get it washed, as soon as it moves wont the e-log start tracking ??
Or is there a way to log off log on feature ??
Be safe all
E logs

If you are "Off Duty" in a city, you can drive to a restaurant or whatever as long as you dont leave that city. If you are working for a company that has computer logs connected to the trucks computer (I guess thats how they do it), and it automatically switches the logs to "Drive" when you start driving, then its time to find another company to drive for.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 12, 2011

Yep, as soon as you start moving, usually 7/10 of a mile... but if you're logged off and drive.. when you log back in, the system will ask you if you're responsible for the time just used.
For example - you drop your truck off with your company shop and take two days off. You log off. The technician road tests your truck after repairs, and of course, time is recorded. When you return and log in, indicate that no, you're not responsible for the time on the truck while you were gone. It ignores that time at that point.
I've seen folks log out, go to Walmart or whatever, then log back in, refuse the time, and the 34 hour reset stays intact.American-Trucker, outerspacehillbilly, EdwardTheTrucker and 2 others Thank this. -

some truck stops are literally across the street from many other businesses, as well.Southpaw7391 Thanks this. -

You need to plan your 34 rest stop. If you move your truck it will log you on line 3. Does your company allow off duty driving? You may have a line 5 option they can put you on for personal use. Remember for Off Duty Driving you cannot be pulling a trailer and you must begin and end at the same location. Talk to your safety department.

Why can't you just turn it off?...A friend with FFE said he can turn his off...My thoughts were, wouldn't the company know there is missing time and miles...

A "real" elog system can't be turned off - no point in having it if it works that way. If it's the QualComm product, you certainly can't turn the stupid thing off!
34-hour restart: You should be able to go to line 5 to use the tractor for personal use - most elog systems have this to differentiate between on-duty and legitimate off-duty driving.
Washing the truck: That sounds like using the truck for a business purpose... elogs or paper, you'd need to log that as on-duty. -
Thank you Mr. Genius! That wasn't what he asked. I think we are all quite aware that truck stops have such things but he is asking a legitimate question and you come up with some half wit answer like usual!
