i was told by a company as i was recently hunting for a job. i am limited due to where i live (birch bay,wa) this recruiter told me they wanted to get away from the old school truck driver for the younger new school driver i chuckled because after he told me that he asked my expierience and i told him well i have 14 years overall and i guess it wouldnt work cause i wasnt the new breed of driver told him to have a nice day...which brings me to my point
(i signed with Holland out of Fargo,ND)
these new breed of drivers disgusts me they have no courtesy and are told that they know everything they need to know when they come outta school last time i checked if you think you know everything due me a favor pull over get out the truck and lock your keys in it and walk away cause your gonna kill someone i like to think of my self yes my exp. says veteran trucker but im a rookie at mind you never have the same day twice...the young guys are just out here in most cases because welfare paid for it they have no knowledge of trucking its just the job the state paid for them to do to get them off of assistance...then they have the nerve to think that there company is there to work for them give and hand them everything example i talked to a interstate driver(when i worked there) he drove from lebanon,tn to dallas and had to take a day off he was tired then he went up to chicago and took another day and he blamed his dispatcher it turns out he had the same one i did and i just put down back to back 3900 mile weeks(2008) i told him he was a lazy ### and that he should go flop whoppers if your tired after 3 days...he called me and old fart supertrucker of course i said thank you for the compliment but it just goes to show you a vast majority of these newbies have no love for the industry and treat is as a job and not a lifestyle now most of you would agree this is a lifestyle not a job and for some of us its what we do and what we know not just a what the hell ill go drive a truck and welfare will pay for it for me its a family tradition and i where the badge proudly yes i am a trucker, and its what i am and what i do and i do it proudly...

get over yourself!! all your " old school ", "It aint what it used to be" , " new drivers are useless" talk is total BS!! when you were a new driver the older guys would have been saying the same about you! youve got a short memory .... or were you just an expert from day one?

    Elton John has a lifestyle:biggrin_2559:

    Dennis Rodman has a lifestyle:biggrin_2559:

What you have is a job.:biggrin_25525:

Plain and simple it is a job.

Yes it has unique issues but is is simply a form of labor. All these people that need the "specialness" of calling it a lifestyle need to get over the simple fact that it is simply a job.

Super Trucker, Newbie , Old School, Steering Wheel Holder............

Insipid labels to make one feel superior:biggrin_2557:, and say far more about the person using them than the receiver of the term.

far Kenworth it... there is a huge difference in the large majority of drivers on the road, and to come off with a disrespectful "get over yourself" attitude is exactly what an older driver (or more experienced) deals with.

I have the unique experience of driving for DOE convoys back in the late 80s when I was active duty Air Force. I drove for Matlack Tank Lines for 3 years in 98-01. I didn't drive again (OTR) until January 2008, and I can tell you from gobs of personal experience, manners, attitudes, cleanliness, driviing professionalism and other aspects have changed by leaps and bounds... and not for the better.

I suggest you understand the facts, and WHY the demographic has changed, before coming off with a Gen X punk attitude. I'm not an "old guy", nor have I been driving for 30 years and have never done anything else.

Of course, if you have your blinders on so you can't see peripherally and your headphones on so you can't hear anyone but yourself... it's a waste of time to discuss this with you.

If you're actually interested in a true debate, bring it. If not, be safe and be careful, and be wary of what you spout off to some old school driver. He might just show the old school way of "sharing his feelings"... and it isn't involving a group hug.

The only issue I have with the OP concerns the readability of his post. Punctuation is a good thing, and appropriate capitalization is always a plus. I stopped reading after what I think were the first 6 sentences or so...... just too much work trying to figure out what was specifically being said, although I got the gist of the post.

But then I'm an Old-Style reader, and don't appreciate the New-Style of I-don't-give-a-darn technique of writing so much. :)

I agree, there's room for improvement on both sides of this road......

Also, what happened to punctuation? The OP was a bit much to read!
