How long do you keep your logbooks?

One question not asked that is definitely on the table: Are they legal, legitimate logs that can be backed up with other supporting documents? OR are they the comic books from running hard as you can and knowing how to keep the man with the badge and gun on the roadside inspection happy?

It's a rhetorical question; so don't answer. The thing is, it's a tough choice between keeping a rattlesnake in a box in the form of cooked books and EVDIENCE against you; or keeping records to prove you were OTR and are entitled to the per diem.

Me? I'm not in the habit of keeping rattlesnakes hanging around in a shoe box or file cabinet. A harmless corn snake would probably stick around my place and be a friendly guest for many, many years. They only eat rodents and big bugs that want to invade my house and eat MY food. We get along just fine. Rattlesnakes? Not so much so. They'll bite whatever they can find and they're poison.

I think y'all got my drift. Your logbooks. Your call on which Devil you dance with.

 

Where do you find that 14 days it's 7 days dot has never went back more then 7 day for me

In Canada it's 14 days. In USA it's 8 days (last 7 plus today). For the original question I have all of mine since I started 6 years ago. All elogs so just a pdf every month on the computer.

 

I never kept mine for very long........year or two maybe. As for a company wanting
me to "prove" I was working years ago or whatever........I will only jump through a
few "hoops".......after that I will look somewhere else for a job. I have very little
patience with companies that have these "college educated idiots" wanting all kinds
of info from years ago just so I can start at the bottom, doing a job no one else
wants to do.

 

Throw it as soon as it's full. I don't need to log everyday so I fill out a paper showing my hours instead of yesterday's logs when I am running a log book.

 

You want to keep them for tax purposes.
Logs are a great way to show you were away from home and can deduct the meal allowance deduction.
In case you ever get audited.
