As a new flatbedder for a company, I haul more than a few coils. All the company gives us now are steel tarps, lumber tarps and smoke tarps. But, I have heard rumors there are a handful of coil tarps still with the company. The flatbedders with other companies and independents, who haul a lot of coils, seem to use the coil tarps rather than steel tarps.
My question is this. Do the coil tarps save any appreciable amount of time over "tenting" a regular steel tarp over a coil. If so, how much time?
Any other advantages? Bottomline is it worth trying to get a hold of one? Thanks Guys

I just tent the things....I don't like carrying all of that stuff, There is a limited amount of space/weight to work with here and carrying all of those redundant tarps and stuff chews up space and adds weight.

Tri-City Canvas makes and sells coil bags
$150 for the biggie - should fit a 50K #
$100 for the medium - fits 30s
I have three and actually like loading coils now.
Ain't no reason a company driver can't buy his own coil bags is there?
Take 'em with ya when ya quit.deerslayer1543 Thanks this. -
OMG yes they save time. One of our drivers saw a guy with coil bags with giant velcro straps. Just slip it over, wrap the velcro straps around the bottom and go, no rubber straps required. I've got a couple I want to get rid of (rubber strap kind) only used maybe 4 times. I have no use for them since all our trailers are conestogas now. Another plus with coil bags is they roll up extremely small so they take up almost no room in a tool box.

I like your attitude as it reflects mine,If I want something on my truck and the boss wont pay...I buy it myself. As an ex carpenter of many years I know the right tool for the job makes a huge difference.
