I'm at Milesburg, PA with a load going to Bridgeport, CT for Monday morning delivery. Common sense would tell me to take 81 up to 84, but I'm kind of thinking of running through NYC, 80 to 95.

Is this nuts ? When people complain about NYC is it more what you run into off the interstates ? I'd like to see it, been to Staten Island once long ago, that's as close as I've come to the big apple. Seems like this route I'd be close enough to get a good view of the skyline. And being Sunday, maybe less traffic ?

I should mention I've got plenty of city experience in Chicago, all over streets in and out of the rail yards there so it doesn't seem as if negotiating the interstates through NYC would be too difficult. There's just kind of this stigma about NYC, is it true ?

Who pays for your tolls? You or the company? Because going over the GW isn't cheap. Other than that if you time it right and get over that bridge before 5 am you should be ok. Anytime after that and you are going to be doing a lot of sitting. 95 isn't that bad once you get over the GW. Just stay in the middle lane and pay attention to the signs. Now once you get into CT that's where the real back ups are.

I would say about 50/50 the company would either reimburse me or say "Why the hell did you go through NYC ?!!" lol.

I think I can handle the sitting part okay, what's the best place to park tomorrow night heading to Bridgeport, CT ?

Personally, I'd avoid it. There are many cities you can get a good look at the skyline from the interstate but NYC (from 95) isn't one of them.

The George Washington Bridge is typically pretty congested from about 5am to midnight. There isn't much to see from 95 except some dilapidated warehouses and depressed projects and low income apartment bldgs. You won't see the statue of liberty except from several miles away and even then for only a split second if you know precisely where and when to look.

If you're really jonesin to see NYC I'd try to pass thru before 5 and I'd suggest going a little out of the way to take the Tappan Zee Bridge as it is far more scenic and you can see some city skyline that you can't see from GW.

exit 27A off 95, then a few exits north to exit 4(Lindley St) off of CT-8/CT-25

There you go. If you got the time to do it, I'd take advantage of the opportunity. Take plenty of pics, buy some crap to take home with you. When I was OTR I loved playing tourist any chance I got and now that I'm local I regret not doing the trucking tourist thing more when I had the chances.

The closest truck stop is in Milford. But that is north of where you are going. There are two different reat areas before your exit. If it was me I would try one of those. Try to time it where you get up there at a decent hour. That way you can find a place to park. Those places fill up kind of fast. The truck stops in Milford are about 15 miles north of your exit if you want to go up there. It's a Pilot and a mom and pop. Those fill up faster than the rest areas so plan for that.
