The last I heard auto truck driveaway isn't hiring but they are union. After hauling freight otr, driving regionally, and driving locally, I wound up trying driveaway (Bennett). It's been the type of job that gives just enough to hang on until a better way of making cash comes along. This company is unstable in that one month there's a lot of long runs, then they may go for months with low paying units that lead to an area where there are no units to connect too. Apparently the best years have passed (been doing it 7 yrs) as I've been steadily making less profit and putting more time on the road to get it. Arother huge factor in the decline of Driveaway is that the Driveaway Contractors get to use any fuel that's left in the truck. Years ago it wasn't unusual to pick up tractors with over 100 gallons and still get paid the fuel surcharge, in fact I counted on it to make a decent buck. Today, almost every single vehicle is right on empty, including at the factories. In the best of worlds, Driveaway companies should be required to cover the drivers travel to and from jobs, motels, and fuel. it's enough that we give up the time it takes to get from one truck to the next. I'm looking for better work (driving or other) but I will say the best thing about Driveaway is the low stress from being empty, and the quick pick up and delivery times. Happy holidays!

Auto Truck Transport is hiring right now. Been with them for going on seven years. Not as good as it used to be but they cover motels, flights and benefits. Wouldn't do any other type of over the road driving

Is AUTO TRUCK TRANSPORT an accepted Class B position/company? I, obviously, need to secure my A again, had it once... Just CAN'T decide whether or not to 'jump' into driveaway?.!.?.!. I'm not from a thick wallet to get started...

hey bud i worked for them for 3 yrs. they were a good company ,keep me busy .the rates that you have ,u might want to check on.i got 60-65 plus a small fuel surcharge making it 75-80 pm. you will be out as long as you want to b away from home. you will need a cdl b and need to know how to drive the trucks from dublin.u will sleep n your car a lot take showers in truckstops a lot. if you have a family this is not for you, single with no ties go for it.good luck greg watt.:biggrin_255::biggrin_255::biggrin_255::biggrin_25514:

Is there 2 Auto Truck Driveaways? The one that has a website that you can apply online says you need a Class A CDL with doubles and Triples endorsements. You start out learning how to hook tractors and chassiss's together, and you don't tow a car, you get motels, flights, and fuel all paid. Sounds like nice benefits but I can see the downside is forced dispatch and I've talked to 2 different drivers who pulled trucks piggyback and they said they've had the loads shift and had to make adjustments on the road. Also some trucks you have to remove the rear axles to hook up. I've driven them after they were put back on and had badly leaking axle seals because they weren't replaced correctly.

I 100% agree with the fact that it's a job for a single person with no ties as is any over the road driving unless you can houl fright and get your spouse to come along.

You're showing the kind of single minded thinking that gives unions a bad name. Contracting has the advantages of taking time off whenever you want, making more of your own decisions, and when the economy is sound there's decent money to be made. You call contractors scabs and fools, but I'd be willing to bet you patronize plenty of businesses that are non-union. Do you consider them scabs and fools too?

Yeah , how many union members shop at WalMart for groceries then cry when Kroger no longer has the big IBT logo on tractors pulling their trailers ?

I worked for Bennett from may of 1996 till late summer of 2010. Was a good company at one time, but no more. I decided to get my class A and now am making much more then I did with them.
