Driver slower, have greater following distances, plan your stops well in advance, don't make sudden movements with your steering wheel, learn how to throw iron.

Never operate above your skill or comfort level. Both will increase with experience.

I can't speak for ALL ice roads but the Ice roads that we run on are not typically slippery. However, they do have the potential to GET slippery quite quickly, particularly if the weather warms up close to or above freezing or if someone spins out on a hill and polishes the road. Where we work, when the road does start to get slick, a grader will be sent out to scarify the road. The roads that we run on have posted speed limits, usually 30kph and the best advice is to not accede the limit.

Might add one thing. Communications with other trucks if your running off-road. Loaded one has the right of way, usually. When in doubt throw Iron.

just get off the road and let the dumb butts be the super truckers. No load is worth risking a accident or having someone else take you out.Listen on the cb and you will hear what the roads are doing.planning ahead with weather reports might help you schedule how you run.I ran a load where I had the weather right behind me so I knew if I stopped my night would be longer.I did get caught on black ice and a canandian driver pulled up beside me and told me to follow him to truckstop about 70 miles away.got there.got to love those canadian guys hey

What kind of "ice road" are you asking about? The intentional, or like on I75 in the US that got iced over?
I've done the I75 thing very frequently, just drive like you would anywhere else on ice.
Now the intentional ice roads, I've never done, but ya, I'd give it a shot.
