    Hi!
    My name is John and I have been driving Tractor Trailer for about 20 years or so. I unfortunately got a DUI in February of 2009 - I have definitely learned my lesson on that!
    I have been having an extremely difficult time finding a new driving job - flat bed, multiple trailers, and oversized loads are my speciality. I also have a Tanker endorsement and experience with food grade tankers, but no Hazmat. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to find a job with my experience? I live in the Philadelphia area, and it would cost $200.00 or more to park a rig around here, so I think I would probably need something within about a 50 mile radius of Philly.
    Any thoughts, ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    I wish I could help, but you'll find most companies have a 7-10 year no hire rule on DUI's.

    This is straight from the FMCSA website...

    Get ready for an arse chewing! :)

    There are a few low quality companies that might consider you. Some companies are 3 - 5 years on the DWI/DUI. The problem will be once you are three years out, you won't have any experience in the past three years.

    I'm sure you can find someone that will hire you. You will only do it with in-person or telephone interviews. In addition, you will have to leave behind any special requirements like within 50 miles.

    You are going to have few options and you will have to work hard to find something.

    I too,wish I could help..I still,in some cases,get grief from some companies about two DUI's....FROM 1980..I was 20 years old.:biggrin_2556::biggrin_2556:
    I think you will have to wait at least 3 years;what I would do,if you,is use the phone,and call,call,call...but,sadly,I think it is an insurance issue.

    Insurance companies won't even consider you for the next three years after your conviction. When I was in South Africa, I met a few Americans driving who had gotten suspensions in the US (reasons vary as to why). It wasn't an easy route to go, however.

    Sorry, but doesnt look to good with that recent of a DUI, Not sure your situation, and not saying this is it, but I have seen drivers at truck stops pound down 18 packs and then some, dont know why any one needs to drink that much nightly, saw the same driver 2 nights in a row, at different truck stops, buy a 18 pack each night, just not to bright in my opinion

    Not to hammer you but 20 years in this business and you get your self a DUI?..:biggrin_25513:

    To answer your question,more likely you going have to hang up your CDL for next 5-7 maybe 10 years before you can drive trucks again.Like I said before and ill say it again,insurance companies run this world no buts or ways around it,so that being said,any one who has insurance is not going to be able to insured you.

    Even if he does go O/O he's going to pay a real hefty price to get covered by insurance IF he can get anyone to stop laughing when he tells them about the DUI or they see it on his MVR. That rider, I would not want to see the cost of. There just might be a bottom feeder needing a driver he can get to haul freight for, for free or some tiny amount of money.

    I just hope everyone else who looked in this thread thinks long and hard about drinking a beverage that has any alcohol in it and then getting behind the wheel of anything, even a bicycle! You paid stupid money for that CDL so why would you think drinking and driving is a smart thing to do? I would hope that if you even pull into a bars parking lot or the driveway of a friend or relative who drinks more than a sane person would, you think about even taking a sip of anything knowing that your livelihood could be on the line not to mention all that money you will be paying out just for a pathetic little buzz.
