I only use my washer fluid for dirt. If enough bugs collect I'll stop and clean the windshield.

I've always used to free blue stuff at our shop, but I always add a .99 bottle of rubbing alcohol. Takes the bugs right off and will never freeze. Of you ever read the ingredients in the $5 a bottle orange or green "bug washer fluid" it's main Ingredent is isoproplene alcohol.

I make my own washer fluid and it does not involve pop LOL geeze how stupid. It may clean while its wet, but what happens when it dries? Sticky nasty mess that's gonna eat paint.
To make one gallon I use 1 cup rubbing alcohol and 1 tablespoon dish washing liquid I prefer dawn detergent as it really does take the grease out of your way. The rest is tap water. Works well till about 20F, below that I will add extra rubbing alcohol or even mix 50 50 with store bought wiper fluid.
I can make 4 or 5 gallons for about $1SHC Thanks this. -
Pop on the windshield has a different connotation for me. I opened a "shook up" bottle of root beer once while driving in a busy city. The thing sprayed and soaked me, my windshield and everything else in the cab. I wear glasses and they were covered. I was temporarily blinded. I was able to pull over safely and clean up. It was hard cleaning up because I was laughing and cursing up a storm!
SHC Thanks this. -
May be slightly off subject but a friend called me earlier this week cussing and very unhappy. He said Texas DOT wrote him up because his windshield washer didn't work. It was only out of washer fluid but they wrote him up for it. Just a little heads up in case anybody goes to Texas.
