I have this posted else where and no one is giving me a straight answer so I figured you more experienced truckers may be able to answer my question and get rid of my worry or completely crush me. So here goes my question, I applied for a company got a prehire, while we were going over everything they informed me of a hair follicle test which I knew I wouldn't pass, I decided to be honest (REALLY wishing I would of shut up and not said a thing right now) but I told them I wouldn't pass a follicle test we finished our short lived conversation and I didn't think a thing of it, till today I recieved a letter from the company letting me know about the DOT regulations on the issue and now I'm extremely stressed that this might show up in my DAC or suspend my CDL (Which I have yet to attain, in school now) please anyone who can give me a straight answer it would be greatly appreciated, I already forked out $4500 for school and I'm thinking 2 minutes of me opening my mouth and being honest may have flushed that down the toilet.

Never volunteer information, except when absolutely necessary.

I think the words, "Screwed the pooch" applies here. When we speak of the major companies.

Won't affect the smaller ones who don't check the data bases.

I don't see a problem. You are in school, you had a pre-hire letter (which is normal), you talked to the pre-hire company and admitted you could not pass a hair test. They said goodbye/goodluck etc. This has nothing to do with having your CDL suspended, since only the state can do that, and they operate on facts, not hearsay. And truck companies do not put info on DAC from prospective employees. Now if you tested VIA the hair test and was found out and failed, that could be a problem, but just verbalizing it means nothing. Cheer up and move on, but be sure you're done with drugs and stay done. BTW, used to live in Nampa, did seasonal beets hauls into the sugar factory.

You've probably screwed yourself with Schneider but I don't see that info being known by any other company.

I understand your "being honest" after giving up dope. Good job, but this is your career and you can't walk through your career like a new fawn hoping the world is a place of peace and harmony. I'm absolutely not suggesting dishonesty. Dishonesty in the hiring process can turn the smallest little blip in your background into a firing offense. So, answer the questions on the application truthfully and succinctly, don't volunteer anything negative. If there are things in your background you don't want to harm you, first don't do things that can come back to bite you. Second, before you talk to a company rep get an application and details about what a company will want to know, if they won't be asking about the past when you were doing bad things or they don't ask "have you ever..." then don't mention it. You talk to the company like you would talk to the cops, the best that can happen is nothing happens. Everything else is worse than the best outcome so be wary of bringing up anything. These aren't going to be your friends or a replacement for your family. They want a driver and you want a boss. Let the women on the Oprah show discuss every detail of their life with strangers. If you aren't on the Oprah show there's no need to tell people stuff they don't need to know.

Bottom line - no positive drug test- so you're definitely better off than the poor soul here a while book who had an ex girlfriend feed him some doctored brownies, yea if you're gonna run the big trucks, stay off the stuff. It isn't worth your life or anyone's granma or child's life.
