Do you get a "free" extra hour of diving at 2am?

No. We were told our logs will update automatically to reflect the time change. I won't be driving so it won't matter, but you must adhere to the normal HOS rules....SO if you start at midnight and drive straight through you will be stopping at 10am.

    SHC Thanks this.

Just like crossing a time zone change. You end and log your day in the time zone you started in and still need a 10 physical hour break from going off duty regardless of the actual time in the new time zone you are starting in.

This is correct, but to elaborate a little more: you would run out of hours at 10am instead of running out at 11am. You still have 11 hours of drive time regardless of what changes DST brings you. The one thing that changes is the time you run out of hours at.

If you were in the sleeper from midnight doing your 10 hour break, you would have hours available at 9am instead of 10am.

If you are driving thru the midnight time change, you continue with the daylight savings time till you stop you day. Once you stop, your eobr should reset to the new time. I actually have to log ut of my system and log back in to make the change take effect, but we use XATA and it runs thru my blackberry.

I will have to call log dept to understand how this happened.... I was in the sleeper when time changed and knew would have a little more than 10 hrs from my 70 on the following day.... But instead, when I woke up, log showed I had 11 hrs avail to drive... I am confused...
