Hey, I know I posted about webasto many times, but I am here again and the good news is, is that my heater is working fine and blows the hot air with no blinking light/powering off :biggrin_25519: The only problem is that it creates lots of smoke at the exhaust. How can I fix this?

One time the smoke stopped for like 2 minutes then all the smoke came back. It doesn't interfere with the heating and runs fine but I don't want to create any other problems in the future.

It's probably the low sulfur fuel! My Tri Pack with the Esbar Heater did the same thing when I had to switch to the new fuel! The heater unit started to smoke so badly that I would wake up to people pounding on the truck screaming it's on fire or the fire department pulling up (I was dedicated NYC and slept in several areas with lots of foot traffic and city streets,) And sometimes waking to the smell of unburnt diesel in the smoke it was so thick! I found that if you pulled the fuel line and fixed a jug with a hose to it and mixed a 50/50 fuel/Howles it would clean the burner in the heater and it would stop for a while until the thing started to get filled up with carbon and had to be cleaned again! It's a PITA but you aren't voiding the warranty on a new truck running an additive in the fuel tanks! If the truck is pre low sulfur then use a fuel additive like Howles or whoever so the thing will burn better.

Not sure how you fixed it and got it working, but the smoke is a sign that your glow plug is going out. That's what mine did both times I had to replace it, and also it will eventually go back to not firing. Like said above, the ULSD builds a lot of carbon and it gets all f'd up. I took out my Webasto and am having an Espar installe next week.

An espar will do the same thing. Had to have the glow plug and the bowl replaced on mine. Like Rollover said, had people waking me up to tell me my truck was on fire.

My espar hates biodiesel . It plugged up so bad that I had to take apart and scrape the carbon out of the burner ! I pull it apart about every other year and give it a good cleaning and new gaskets.

Mine puffs white smoke every now and then for a short time. It has been doing that since brand new.

You will have to call Webasto or look up their dealer network online. I have a dealer about 30 miles away from me.

Make sure you turn your Webasto off a few minutes before starting the truck. It has a shutdown cycle that is used to burn out all the remaining fuel in the combustion chamber. If you just start the engine and roll, this doesn't happen, leading to the unburnt fuel building up in it and turning to goo. After awhile it starts burning too... lots of smoke. Looks like your truck is on fire!

What Webasto heater are you guys talking about? I am looking at the one that heats the coolant and the one that heats the coolant and cab. The Espar has one to that I am looking into.
