    Hi Everyone,

I have just purchased a "new to me" (04 Volvo 780) truck in Toronto and will be driving back across the country to the West Coast (bob tail). I have decided to do the crossing through the US because it is less miles and fuel prices are cheaper.

My plan was to cross in Detroit, Head over to Chicago and then take I94W pretty much the whole way to I90.

Looking for any good advice on this route. Also, going to need to pick up a few things on route (ie. chains and some other accessories) - if anyone has suggestions on favorite places to shop (cost conscious of course).

    Thanks in Advance.

I hope you are well aware of what will be needed when you deal with U.S. Customs .

    Rick,

The truck is actually coming back as a "private" truck - non commercial. Checked with Customs on both sides and there were like - just go through the regular customs line - DO NOT go through commercial.

If you plan on registering it in the us you have to broker it across and actually import it and be sure that you get a redstamp on your pro forma invoice. Also don't forget that you have to pay twelve percent exise tax just like it was new.

    Hehehe - NICE!

I had the truck "singled" so it only has one axle in the back and the commercial hitch has been replaced by a RV 5th wheel hitch. So it will be pretty obvious the truck can't tow a commercial trailer :).

    Hey Haul,

I am actually just using the US as transit ... the truck is actually going to stay a Canadian registered truck. So don't have to worry about brokerage fees etc. etc.

I have just never run the I94 corridor so looking on some feedback/suggestions/etc.
