    Tank Endorsement Study Guides

    Hello Folks

    Does anyone have any study guides for tank endorsement that are not intensive? My father;s been an owner operator for over ten years and he doesn't have the patience to read through a study guide or book.



    Any info or help would be greatly appreciated

    The tanker endorsement test is easy - your home state CDL manual doesn't have a tanker endorsement section? It should take less than a half hour to read.

    Yeah, I didn't mean it as a snide remark. The tanker endorsement chapter was probably, 13 - 15 pages tops; and much of the info was pretty easy/common sense.

    But, this was in the Massachusetts CDL manual - may be different in Illinois.

    The CDL manuals all pretty much look the same except for maybe the governors letter in the front and if it's printed in B&W or color!

    They all have the same information the gooberment says must be in the sections. Some states might want to add something but I can't answer that as a fact but maybe CA being off in their own fantasy world, they just might! LOL
    The other thing is in each section as you know there will be about a 5 question "test" to check how you are doing as you study.

    Believe it or now the 3 states I've held a CDL in all asked the same questions that were found in the CDL Manual!

    You learn all of the answers to those found in each section and you'll pass any written test of any State. I also was an instructor at a school south of Atlanta years ago and nothing changed from then until my last "test" 7 years ago! Now unless I want to add an endorsement I don't have to sit and answer questions! Not that it would bother me!

    Just read the book, then go back over the tanker section and even the hazmat and once you can answer those questions, especially the ones you get stuck on you'll do fine at the licensing office!

    If he doesn't have the patience to read through the state issued study guide, he's got no business pulling a tanker. Just sayin'

    Read the manual and crist cdl has practice tests for it and a couple of other endorsements.

    I'd have to second that one. There is more involved with tanker driving, especially with HazMat! Every offload point is different and he'd have to know how to line up the equipment for proper loading and off loading. Again, with HazMat, those procedures would be critical.

    Tell him to man up, or forget it. It's an easy test for sure. Someone with no patience to read a manual, yet will have to deal with tank surge sounds like a rear end crash to me, or worse.

    OP, when a tank truck stops, the load in the tank doesn't. It surges forward hitting the front bulkhead, which will push the truck forward. It can do this multiple times in a sudden stop, as the wave travels back and forth inside the trailer. Plus as you go around a steep turn, the load will slide into that turn, raising the center of gravity on the trailer, easily rolling over if fast enough, thanks to a driver without patience. I just wanted to explain why these other drivers and myself said he shouldn't pull one if he doesn't have the patience to read a very small manual.
