Training for TX Oil Fields as Water Hauler

Go take the written....pass. go take the road test....pass. You now have a CDL. Not at all a duanting task. Its all the other 67,000 laws and regs that will get cha.

 

The red Peterbilts in the background hauling Kenny Chesney are owned by Upstaging. They do not take ANYONE with less than 5 years.

As I read through that ad, I came to the realization that there is so much BS posted there, you couldn't move it with a souped up D8.

I cringe at the fact that these people are probably churning out completely clueless Class A holders without a CLUE of how to get a manual transmission and a 53' trailer down the road.

Or running off road on an oil rig.

They should make it mandatory that you have to pull a full size trailer with a standard transmission to be qualified.

 

Nope, I just took the written and took the road test. Got my CDL in 2 days but I have also been wheeling around grain trucks since I was 14 years old.

Best of luck to ya, but w/o experience I don't see you getting a job driving. They may take you on as a roughneck tho.

 

ok, I have 37 yrs driving, long haul oversize permit loads, freight loads with triples - Wal banger its no big deal, water trucks in the oil patches , heavy haul in oil patches so here's my opinion. what type of water truck? will it be for fracing, dust control or something else? will it be a 4000 gal trk or a 20,000 gal tanker? If its a 4000 gal trk you'll probably be on the leases mainly so get the lic any way you can. oUt its a 20,000 gal tanker your going to want good training & it will cost. An independent company that trains for the fields is The Center for Transportation Safety, in Colo. they have a loc in Odessa. When off road remember that its a " on road" truck so go slow and don't spin your tires. more water trucks twist their drive lines because of this and in the patches - SAFETY FIRST.

If you in the dfw area you will find a waterhauling company that will hire you with absolutely no experience. It will take lots of leg work on your part but they are out there. Halliburton will hire you and get you your cdl. The oilfield is gonna vary alot depending on your location. Hauling water in west Texas compared to the barnett are gonna involve much different skill sets. The job is really easier in the barnett. Most lease roads are less than a mile long and for the most part all you do is gauge hook up your hoses and wait. And then drive less than thirty miles to unload or wait and unload.

you can not sanitize trucking and put it all in neat little box's to suit the
fragile.

and likely get "something killed" You dont Oops! and recover like the dock bumping door swingers.
You come out here and your life will be hell,talking skill sets,11,14,70 rules,
they dont fly out here(YOU WORK),play fantasy trucking else where thats potentially more forgiving.
