Do this in the winter with wet brakes and you'll get quite proficient at swinging a hammer to knock 'em loose in the mornin'.

If I release both brakes the trailer airbags will deflate and push the kingpin forward. It pushes enough that the tractor breaks start slipping and poping from the presure. Maybe it's just a spread axle thing.

I have serious doubts if this is even worth the hassle. Yeah, I have heard it too, and from people who really swear by doing it.

The best one I have ever seen/heard: I was staying at the Loves in SLC for my break. I walked inside and overheard a rather heated "discussion" between a Hispanic fellow and the manager. When I walked up to the fuel counter to get my shower, I asked the cashier what was going on. She proceeded to tell me that the Hispanic guy pulled into the fuel island earlier in the morning and decided to leave it there while he went sightseeing in SLC...for the entire day. She said that they called his company, but the company couldn't get a hold of him, so they towed his truck.

Apparently to the gents dismay, his truck was not where he left it upon his return, so he was yelling at the manager. Now mind you, it was dark when I went to get my shower, and I'm guessing that he had just returned sometime around when I went up there.

cn: Guy parks his truck in the fuel island and goes sightseeing in SLC for the day. Truck gets towed. Guy blames Loves.

Don't know how old the hispanic was but it seems to me that they younger generation has this "ITS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSES FAULT BUT MY OWN" syndrome. It appears to be an epidemic lately and seems to be slightly contagious

Sounds like the High School and College students I used to teach, "It's not my fault I failed, it's my teachers fault". College was just as bad, "but I don't like to read" or "I paid for the course, so pass me."

Not defending the guy, but at a lot of fuel stops I cannot get the pumps turned on without walking in. In case you are unaware, Visa, Mastercard, etc. are not accepted at the card readers out by the pumps at most of the major chains. So, when I need to fuel at one of them, I pull in to the pump....update my log and write down my odometer while the EGT cools enough to shut off the truck. Then, after I shut off the truck and walk inside, I have to wait in line at the fuel desk until I get to the front of the line to pay for my fuel before making my way back out to the truck. Once back at the truck, I proceed to pump my fuel...and when I'm done, I walk back inside to wait in line at the fuel desk again to complete the transaction. If the fuel stop is unwilling to help move the line along by allowing me to pump my fuel and then come inside to pay so that I only have to wait in line at the fuel desk 1 time, then I'm just as unwilling to help them move the line along by firing my truck up to move it up 50-60 feet before I walk back inside.

One other thing to remember, I've been to a lot of fuel stops which have security cameras, visible from the line at the fuel desk. I like to find my truck and keep an eye on it...and if I see anyone messing with it, they won't be walking away. If I don't catch someone messing with my truck, but there is evidence of tampering when I go back out to it, my truck will sit there blocking everything until the managers review the security tapes with me and we see who messed with the truck...and the police will be involved...and so will your carrier. Is your petty, childish act of "revenge" when you don't have a clue what might be going on really worth your job and a stay at the gray-bar motel?

Now on a lighter note, I ran across a real whopper the other day. I pull into my usual fuel stop....little independent with 1 satellite diesel pump. There's a truck sitting there, with no driver in sight. I figured he was inside paying for his fuel and would be along shortly, so I waited. About 5 minutes later, here he comes walking up to his truck. Not from the truck stop we were at, but from the Love's across the street....carrying an ice cream cone and a coffee from the McDonald's inside the Love's.

If you want to go to the Love's, PARK at the Love's. Or at least find an actual parking space before walking over there. Parking at the fuel island of one truck stop to walk over and buy food at another truck stop is taking ignorance to a whole new level...:biggrin_25513:

You wouldn't be doing it to help the fuel stop. You'd be doing it because it's the right thing to do to help other drivers.

So complain to them. It's their policy of not accepting major credit cards at the fuel pump that has me having to walk inside to wait in their stupid line twice as it is. When they show concern for my time, I'll show concern for their other customer's time. That policy, along with the fact that they overcharge for their fuel, is why I generally avoid the major chains. If you see me fueling at one, it is because I literally had no other choice.
