Who does landstar sell their old trailers to?

Don't know if anyone can answer this but, My husband drives over the road going from Dayton, Ohio to Texas and back. Driving in the construction area in Dayton, Ohio another truck crossed over the line and hit my husbands mirror on his truck almost taking it off. He was unable to get the name of the trucking company off of the truck but, the trailer said Landstar. He also got the trailer # and the tag #. The highway patrol said there was not much they could do because the other truck kept going. I called Landstar and, they said this trailer used to belong to them but, they no longer own it. I explained to them the situation and they said they didn't know who the trailer belongs to now. The trailer still said Landstar on the side. Any idea's?

If they sold it direct to another buyer, they know who purchased it. If they sold it at auction and a private buyer bought it, the new buyer (owner) name could get muddled up in the paperwork, since Landstar only cares about receiving the funds from the auction sale. Not sure if they de-ID their trailers or not when sold. Could even be an O/O's old trailer. However, assuming the trailer number is the same, they could track it down. There's a forum member on here who's a Landstar agent might be able to help you. When it's all said and done, might be more trouble than it's worth. Other driver could say your hubby crossed into his lane !

Most of ls trailers are leased so it was probably returned to the leasing company and sold by them.

If he got the tag number the police should be able to find out who owns it. From that they can find out who was hooked to it the day it happened. Some who lease to Landstar have their own trailers and put Landstar's name on the trailer as well as their truck.

If he has the tag# the cops can track down the owner. Are you saying the police officer was saying he didn't have the time to do his JOB? Investigating an accident? (Yes, that part of the investigation is gonna take bit of time, but heck, if they can call in my car tag to dispatch, and get told who its registered to in seconds....you see where this is going, right?)

Obviously, there is more to the story. It takes 10 seconds with one finger to run a tag.

run it up the flag pole, keep pushing.

if you have a plate#, something should be able to be done. whatever company it belongs to has insurance, 99.999 guaranteed. it might be the case that who you were talking to wasnt interested in helping you find who did it because they were protecting one of their contractors, try talking to the safety department, talk to one of the management people.

get in touch with the police, if you cant get something from the cop, talk to their boss.

personally, in a situation like this if someone didnt want to stop and the damage was minor i might be inclined to not push the matter and repair it myself rather than risk something ending up on my dac...especially if you didnt have a witness...your companies going to want to blame someone, there is damage and theyre left with the bill. there really isnt much you can do, most company drivers are limited to 65 mph or less so you arent likely to be able to keep up with him, hopefully there are witnesses. hopefully you have a camera, and hopefully the police respond and catch him in the act of flee'ing an accident (felony).
