Being courteous towards others is when you go out of your way for them. Sad that you're just too lazy for that...

I never flash another driver over, and for a few reasons.

* Drivers don't know how to 'thank' another driver. If your truck doesn't have a marker ident interrupt switch, a simple activation of the 4-ways work.

* I drive the speed limit everywhere I go, so if you pass me, you are speeding. If you think speed limits don't apply to you, why in the heck would I be 'courteous' to you? By speeding, you aren't being courteous to me or the other drivers on the road.

That's not saying that I don't slow down to let a driver have my lane when they need to merge. I just never flash someone over. If you can't merge safely on your own, you don't belong in a CMV, and don't think for a second that I wont call the state police and report you if you drive like a idiot.

I'd say I flash fellow drivers about 40% of the time. If I'm in a congested area, then I flash to help them out. If it's night time, I flash. If I'm on a multi-lane interstate, then I flash. If there is no traffic, on a 2 lane interstate, then I don't flash. There are times that it can lower the chances of accidents, and it's a way of showing respect.

While you flashing the lights for someone else is helping them, it also helps you. It's easy to become complacent when being in a truck 23 hours a day, 7 days a week, doing the same thing over and over. If you're aware of if the truck in front of you is clear to merge, then you're obviously paying attention. At this point, flashing is a habit. I sometimes catch myself flashing for cars to merge.

Yep, I usually do not pull back in until I feel there is a safe distance between us.

I flash well turn my lights on and off just as a courtesy, most people thank me, some don't, but thats ok I will continue to do so. Now if a large car blows by me and is a half a mile up the road before i can do it well then i don't lol. To those that think it's not necessary, it's not really, but it's old school courtesy I learned from dad that drove for 45 years.
