I had a run in with a Arizona state trooper who is exactly described in the first post. Just walks up like he owns the truck, yanks the door handle and invites himself to come on in. But as posted, my doors were locked, both windows down..Any talking we need to do can be done that way.

This " officer" had no clue how you're supposed to log.. Everyone knows you use your home time, no matter where you're at, your logs will be on your home timezone.. Me being from Alabama, which is Central time. I had this officer here telling me that " No sir, Alabama is eastern time zone, and your logs don't add up at all".

I sat on the side of the road with this azzclown arguing that yes in fact, Alabama is Central Time, but he'd have none of it, he had to be right, he even pulled out a cute little map that had time zones clearly marked, and looking right at Alabama, could see it plain as day on that map that I was right, and my logs were to the T. But Mr.Supertrooper was determined to give it to me.

He proceeded to write me up for log violations, saying that my logs say I should have been 200 miles east of where I was, etc.. and of course, he did the same to my co-driver, who was asleep and had been asleep for the better part of 7 hours.. 2 for 1 for him.. This jerk off put me out of service for 12 hours, luckily no cash fines, just a huge inconvenience and made me a day late to my drop off.

And then I was basically held hostage in New Mexico because my company was not IFTA or whatever, permitted for NM, so they would not let us leave the weigh station until we paid 400 something dollars, and that was a " one time passage" meaning we'd have to pay again to come home..So we sat there while another Supertrooper parked his pretty little cage in front of my truck until my company owner/dispatcher called and did a comcheck..another 5 hours wasted..

NM does require a permit, much like KY or NY....but other than that, the rest of your story is amazing. Nothing your fault.
It's good you didnt get a ticket but I would have LOVED to go to court over a timezone issue. I'm sure the judge would realize your were right and if the officer actually bothered to show - it would be great to see the look on that azzclowns face.

    These cops...what the hell..

I'm sorry you go thru that junk - state troopers who need to find someone to make themselves self-important. I never realized the nonsense truckers go through.

In our family we have a lot of Cops, and a lot of truckers, I might say that there are a share of us truckers that give the Cops a hard time too. It does go both ways. and there are clowns in both fields. But I would prefer to be a clown trucker than a clown cop.

I will be honest and say that my driving job brings me into the scales every day, permit loads.

Out of all the times I talk with DOT or police I have to admit my bad incidents with them are less than .001 percent, not that I do anything illegal or equipment is bad but hauling permit loads you are under constant scrutiny.
