I didn't judge you, your own stupidity did. You say you got drunk and did a line? I see, the alcohol made you do it. Isn't that the typical response from an addict/drunk? Ok, you quit alcohol and lines, good for you. A persons reputation and character means everything whether they are aware of it or not.

every thread i've read on this has feeble minded people just bashing people so i thought i'd try my own thread and heres the same stuff. Oh well, it's hard to talk with perfect people who don't make mistakes. Thanks for the comment aiwiron. Hopefully i'll find someone who's actually been here and is back out on the road. I do live with a really dumb mistake i made while on my hometime and 2 days later when i went back i got tested. Again, i have to say the SAP counseiling has really helped me learn about me. I've quit drinknig started eating better and now go to the gym 5 days a week so i guess in a way i'm thankful. Although part of me still says what people do on their weekends off shouldn't affect what they do at work. i stayed out 3 to 6 weeks at a time and never touched anything including alcohol while i was in that truck. now i'm into my 7th month of sobriety and things are looking good everywhere in my life except for finding a job but i'm sure it will all work out.

To give my background, i drove for abiout a year and then on my hometime i couldn't keep my nose clean, so to speak. This happened in October 2011. i immediatley went through the SAP program. Obviously I've found out that most companies wont give me the time of day right now. I've talked to a couple who say after 3, 5 or 7 years they will look past the drug test. My question is, hopefully for someone who has gone through this and is currently back OTR, will i need to find a refresher course after the 3 years is up?? I know most companies won't hire you unless you have 1 year expericence in the last 3 years so by the time one of these companies will even consider me i won't have the expericience anymore. I'm figuring for at least the 3 yeaers i will have to find something else to make money but hope that it is possible to eventually get back out there. I really did love being on the road. Anyway, i appreciate the insight from anyone who has gone through this already.
    thanks

    Hi
You need to find someone who's like a private carrier.
A farm hauling grain to the elevator, or live stock.
If they will work with you for a reference, then you want to list your employment dates as a "contracted driver" to your prospective employer.
If they will go along with that for you, and verify your date of employment to that prospective job, that's how you can fill the gap.
It would be like seasonal work to the most current season..!
    Good Luck..!

i wish you well, it will be an uphill climb for you.

but should you fall and roll down that hill, after you have been given another chance, i will have nothing good to say to you in the future..

Thanks but trust me if i am lucky enough to get back on the road there won't be another screw up like this one. As i said earlier , overall it's been a great thing for me. I learned a lot about me and continue to stay sober and going to the gym 5 to 6 days a week. I just hope some new guys getting into trucking will read this and learn from my mistakes

These statements are what made me jump in. I was just reading and trying to think of places you might check until I read these. You have the gall to call anyone who throws a judgement call out idiots and feeble minded. Well, those idiots and feeble minds have jobs, don't they? Congrats on being sober, but don't think for a minute that any of us should stand back and keep our mouths shut while you call us names. We're the feeble minded and the idiots, yet you are the one that shot yourself in the foot because you didn't have the mental fortitude to stay away from bad things. It was a choice, not a mistake.
    Rant over.

Anyhow, as others have stated, try the smaller companies. You may have to deal with less than ideal conditions, but there is still a chance.
