13 or 18 speed question
When shifting back into the low side gears, does the splitter have to be in direct?

I should have been more specific, sorry. Yes you can split the bottom side with an 18 speed, but with a 13 speed the bottom gears are not split. I have read that not being in direct when going back to bottom side gears will cause damage in a 13 speed.

When you are in the low side on a 13 the splitter will not move. When you flip the range switch on the front & shift into high then the splitter will work.

I am aware of that, thank you though. I was only questioning coming from high side back to low side. Sounds like range selector will not go to the low side if splitter is not in direct.
