Good driving, or bad choices?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEdmg_bdcLs
The rig in question is a 11' wide OS load weighing 100,000+ load per conversations with the person involved (rig driver). He -claims- he was going under 55 at the time of the wreck.
Just knowing that, and then watching the video, what would your opinions be on how a) the driver found themselves in the situation and b) how they handled the situation.

Watching the video, The dump truck was passing him, but then there the dumptruck was slowing or he pick up speed, as well all know, some drivers dont like to be passed , so they will speed up, not sure witch way this one was, it did sound like the OS load driver ecellerated, from the audio, anyways, MHO, driver error, I ran OS, Had thing happen in front of me, no accidents, I understand there may be times the driver cant avoid, just do think this is one of those times, driving under 55, sometimes is not slow enough, when hauling OS

I'm more curious as to why there was a tire bouncing down the road.

must had been an accident, Thats why the cars where stopped, the dump truck driver oviously saw that, My concern is?, Why didnt the OS driver not see it, What was he doing?, By my Thought?, not watching the road ahead of him, In a normal rig, on the freeway you should be looking between 5-6 seconds ahead of you, in an OS load that distance should be farther, due to being heavier, JMO

the tire bouncing down the road is what caused the 4 wheelers to slam on there breaks, it seemed to me the truck speed up on the down hill not the dump truck slowing down it sounded like he was jake breaking all the way down the hill. what you cant really tell is how long the brake lights where on the cars before he hit the breaks, he is on the breaks less than a second after the tire comes into view. he was keeping a good following distance but a os load carrying 100k lbs is not and will not stop as fast as a 4 wheeler, however there was about 2 1/2 seconds between the time you can notice the traffic slowing down before he actually hits the breaks, that there is probably the cause of the accident.

That guy is an idiot! 1st he should have noticed the stopped traffic in time to stop and 2nd instead o fhitting one car he swerved and plowed into 3? 4? Cars...to avoid a little tire? Idiot!

i think he probably saved a life by hitting multiple vehicles instead of one at the speed he was still going when he hit the cars a direct hit would have certainly caused serious injury if not death for the 4 wheeler. I think this accident could have happened to anyone although could have been avoided by a extra second of following distance, and a little quicker reaction. literally 2 seconds would have made the difference between stopping in time and not.

Its easy to look at 45 seconds of video in which you know an accident is about to happen, identify the problem and react in time. Precede it with 6 hours of uneventful driving, get no warning of what is about to happen, and it might be a different story. I'm not saying the driver didn't make some mistakes, but we all do at times, and this guy was unlucky enough to have aggravating circumstances that combined to create the incident.
