I can choose either way to get paid, but I have never been paid percentage. Trying to find out what that typically would equated to. Running reefer in a 5 state range with being home weekly and thru the house at least once a week the ad states. How does that rate equate on reefer loads?

Most times it would be a wash. A few dollars difference each week. BUT, if one of their customer's goes looking for a cheaper carrier to lower the costs, then your percentage rate will fall below the CPM rate.
24% of $1.95 is a lot less than 24% of $3.00, see where i am going.

You need to ask the company their average haul rate and then do the calculations. I find that percentage usually pays more, but it all depends on the rate.

I would imagine there is a good chance percentage pay could work better for the job you are looking at. Because you are running a five state area you will have shorter loads, which usually pay a higher rate per mile. If the company deadheads a lot (which pays nothing on percentage), it could offset this. I would second what G/MAN says...you have to ask the company more questions. They should be willing to tell you what their drivers average per mile on percentage. I would assume there will not be a tremendous difference between the two options or they wouldn't give you the choice.

I run a percentage now after running cpm for years. I get 28% and the money seems to be working out about the same however it is dry freight not reefer. I would ask the company for a sample of several regular loads that they do and the actual amount they get to base your pay on which is what I did before starting with my company. You will probably find out that it is a wash.

I get paid a split of hourly and percentage. All my local work is hourly, anything beyond 100 air miles is percentage (30% plus a percentage of detention pay if there is any). I have a couple of percentage runs that balance out to $.60 cpm, and a couple that balance out to $.20 cpm. I would try to find out what the rate the company charges on a load to figure it out. THe other option, talk to some current drivers ask them, that will give you a good idea. If more are taking CPM over percentage, then the company is lowballing and your better off taking CPM.

Speaking for the Company. I am going to pay you as little as possible. If I give you two choices you can bet that they are both the same. They are the lowest wage I think you will except. I am not going to give you a choice where you make more money then I would have had to pay you the other way. The percent of haul makes you feel like you are more a part of the company. The per mile is a way I can figure out what my fixed cost will be per mile. Both are equal. But you have to pick one. Since I am a Republican, I am in a Dirty Harry Mood.
