the d60 450 i drove was way weaker then the isx 450 i drive now. it couldn't climb faster then 25. my isx don't drop below 30.
the d60 was rebuilt. the isx is worn out. -
Just left a company that had most all forms of the ISX. ( I'm a former Cummins parts guy ). I have to say when...WHEN..they run good they're great....but out of 50+ tractors...###### near every one (pre & post DPF,etc ) all had the notion to de-rate...for no apparent reason. We just ran them. Cummins Rocky Mountain couldn't figger it out, nor could Peterbilt.
Pretty sad excuse for an engine in my 20 years experience.
Drove a water truck w/a Cat ASCERT engine w/ whell slip control. Think about it....a water truck that de-rates RPM's when the wheels slip. Hmmmm. Makes it a bit dicey in the muddy Calichi of New Mexico. Not about abusing the drivetrain.....just keeping some kind of momentum. -
The best truck I have driven in my career was the '99 Kenworth T2000 at Stevens Transport with the 435 hp Cummins N14. Those N14's are virtually bulletproof. I ran into a driver who was driving one of those old T2's His truck had 3 million miles on it. Listening to that N14 idling brought back fond memories.
whoopNride Thanks this. -

My 2010 ISX is always throwing codes and have had it in the shop about 7 times in the last year for EGR,Turbo Actuator,ECM flashing, sensor problems and the DPF had to be sent off to be burnt out...
Cummins says about every 250k for the exhaust filter to be baked and cleaned...Geeze!
The have a crank case filter that plugs up and blows your oil cap off too....
All this emissions crap and i only average 5.8 mpg. -
Stay FAR away from Rocky Mountain Cummins if you do get an ISX.
People can disagree or have their own opinion about Cat/Cummins/Detroit all day but one thing is FACT.
Rocky Mountain Cummins had a dozen chances with me and my many cummins engines, I will NEVER let them near any of my trucks. The new shop opened in Tolleson AZ about 10 years ago and had nobody there who was older than 23. It could be because they are a mile from UTI (tech school) but I dont care why, the most experienced technician they had there had 2 years experience. -
I have a 07 ISX 550 at 852K+ miles. I too have had the EGR replace twice. But i'm still in love with the power and a jake that will bring 80k+ to a stop from hwy speed on a 6% grade. I haul crude oil in Colorado so I have definitely sacrificed MPG for HP as 75% of my driving is up or down hills.
