Heres my question to my professional driver friends....whats better for a newb with a brand new CDL....driving the western 11 or east coast mom and pop furniture runs. I realize western driving has some serious mountains and the east coast mom and pop runs requires some more precision manuvers getting into these small little stores. Any advice would be appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance

i started with CR England, they put me on the west coast right after school in September, i stayed out there all winter

i am not one to fear a challenge and it was the best learning experience of my life, by the following spring, i had overcome all fears of driving in the rockies

after that, i learned the east coast, and parking with your truck jacknifed in a small street in boston, traffic in the bronx, all rounded me out, and i savor the memories

some in my class rolled over within a month

Drive 11 Western. Learn basic driving, hills, snow, and time management before you graduate to the stresses and requirements of furniture hauling on the east coast.

Edit .. I've done mom and pop furniture store deliveries and they're like Dollar General stores ... do them singularly long enough and you're going to hit something or rip out some utility line or be admitted for stress related health problems .. and neither one is going to promote your trucking career.

If you can drive east coast the rest of the country looks like child play. Stick with western then graduate to east coast

Personaly, it used to be, companies sent newbs in and out of the east coast for your first 1-3 years. Builds patience and it can give you job security with your backing skills. Backing in the east coast does amazing things with your backing. The schools dont work enough with students with backing, and it costs too many drivers their jobs on a daily basis. Survive east coast, and the rest can be cake. Be safe out there drivers.

Seems like you are cruising for a bruising with anyone of those choices. I have over 10 years experience, and I wouldn't touch neither one of those. More power to you. Even though I'm in the east coast at the present time. I don't have to see it everyday, and Even though I go out west. I'm thankful I can miss those snow storms. So I would just go otr and learn how to drive and maneuver the truck b4 I find myself with a brand new cdl and can't get a job because of an accident.

Thanks for your advice...I really appreciate it. I dont want to set myself up for failure. I know the companies just want the freight moved, and any risks or accidents will be all on me. I am just looking to minimize what I can so I can get some experience. This trucking community is the best! I have read alot and hope I can use some of the great advice Ive gotten. Thanks to you all and stay safe!

Go with the western 11 and really learn how to drive the truck instead of learning to drive with more idiots. Trust me, theres plenty out here but the weather and mountians will really give you the experience.
